Curious about TalkTalk fibre availabity

This is not definite at the moment, just checking out options.

Fibre is available at my house and at the exchange, but when looking at the TT web site it does not offer fibre for me or to others in the town centre. Just wondering why this should be when they do LLU connections.

Dreadful speeds. They probably don't want the hassle of explaining to people why they are paying more but it is possibly slower than ADSL2+ was. What speed do you connect at, (not the speed test speed), on LLU?

Each LLU operator has to purchase a connection into the optical switch that the FTTC cabinets are connected to, aka a GEA cablelink. That connection is needed to get data between the LLU backhaul and the Openreach access network.

TT have been known to not bother purchasing this connection - so you might want to check other suppliers too.

This really out of curiosity in case some other ISP offers backhaul on TT. Can understand it at my distance but thought the town itself would have the availability of fibre from TT.

If TT haven't brought the cablelink for FTTC they couldn't wholesale for any other ISP either.

You have to decide whether to wait and see if they do, or if it is worth moving to a BT hosted ISP ( or Sky if they have brought a link) for the extra 2Mb down and doubled upstream speed.

Not sure it is worth it regardless for the small increase you will get, you must be over a mile from the Cab for those figures. Could check your home wiring first as that may have more impact and any improvement will also get you closer to the clean High figures.

These are the same rates as I gave above.

This is only an investigation into what might be possible but I am wondering if the extra cost is worthwhile.

Don't know if anything can be read into my current stats that might give an indication of what I might get. The cab is about 1.7Km.

If the FTTC ends up running in the 3.5 to 4.5 Mbps region then it should make streaming video in SD easy and HD possible but not always brilliant.

Its a big IF until you try it, and only you can decide if the extra cost is worth it.

That is why I was looking at the town locations to see if it was available. Assumed that since they had a LLU presence there then they would also provide fibre, but as you have explained there is more to it than that.
