Line install, and possible FTTC

[link to this post]

Good Afternoon,

I am posting in here yet again, with another question.

Here is my present situation: I have Virgin Media (Fibre - If you can call it that) and want to eventually move to a BT Wholesale based FTTC package, but here is the issue, I don't have any land line. So here are my 2 questions:

Can I get a BTW land line installed without affecting my existing VM service? Once the land line is installed how long would my address take to show up on the BT DSL checker?

Thanks in advance smile

CJT.

I had a BT line and a cable line (in the pre-VM days) for several years, they are totally unrelated.

Yes

Excellent!

Ah amazing! Because I don't have a BTW line at the moment I cannot 100% check speed estimates.. so that's good to know.

Do any neighbours have a BT line? Would give a very good likely estimate to work from.

One further question:

As it's a "new" install of a service (land line) would an Openreach engineer need to attend?

Err, you've already stated there is no line at the property, so it would seem a given that an Openreach engineer would have to visit to install a line to the property.

Apologies when I mean "no line" it may have previously been connected to the BTW network, but when I moved in it was with Virgin Media. I have a NTE5 (but with a VM Faceplate).

Would they still need to visit?

Sorry again.

Potential problem.

If the BT line is installed to the NTE5, and that NTE5 is in use by VM with their faceplate, then surely your VM service will cease immediately. Long before your FTTC comes along. Or will it just cease your VM phone service?

I think you need a Simultaneous Provide of line and FTTC.

The indispensable man or woman passes from the scene, and what happens next is more or less the same thing as was happening before.

If the VM line is terminated at the NTE that was previously a discontinued service from Openreach, then why should Openreach break a functioning VM service by installing a new line? Surely openreach would install a new NTE at the appropriate location?

Unless VM (as a licensed telco) are not supposed to touch the NTE in the property, which case it would be VM at fault and they would have to 'regularise their installation' first?

I know plenty of people with VM telephone lines that are connected to the NTE, as this is where extension wiring generally starts in the bigger residences.

Openreach engineers will be well versed in what to do, and will just add a new NTE

Good Morning RobertoS, I think I may have confused the situation for which I apologise.

I presently have only VM Cable Fibre, which runs from outside via a white cable (I assume coax) to a VM Modem/Router. I did previously (for 1 year) have the VM phone service but cancelled it as I never used it and it would have been another 12 months upfront or £17.99 a month.

I hope this re-explains my situation. Sorry frown

Thank you MrS, I am not sure if my reply to RobertoS changes that at all? If not it really does not matter.

I will just be glad to move away from VM eventually. smile
