Is it normal for Openreach to provide an ECI modem for lines on a Huawei Cabinet?
|
|
|
|
Unfortunately, yes it is.

They used to match modems to cabs, now you get what they have on the van at the time. I have two ECI in the cupboard and a Huawei connected to an ECI cab...

Not true, you got what the engineer had been issued by their stores department.

Kinda negates the whole point doesn't it ? You haven't matched modem to DSLAM.

I thought Openreach was very "shocked" 7 "disappointed" at the use of ECI's on Huawei cabinets and vowed that it wouldn't be the case any longer... I remember this coming up after the G.INP balls up!

and vowed that it wouldn't be the case any longer... Dont remember this bit

It was somewher... Not important though!

Correct, deliberately as I want line stats and I can't be bothered tearing down the ECI to do it and I didn't lose any speed compared to the ECI modem I used previously by doing it.

DSLStats doesnt appear to support the ECI modem.
Is there an alternative to get line stats from an ECI Openreach modem?
I have a Billion Bipac 8800 NL that works great and gives full stats but because I have a congested line, Zen not keen to raise fault with Openreach until I put the ECI modem back on.

There is but you have to take the modem apart, various articles on how to do it. This article gives some idea of what needs to be done on an ECI modem.

Not keen on that.
I also read that ECI modem on Huawei cabs increase latency and sync slower than Huawei modems.
Does anybody have a link or a list of the modem/routers approved by Openreach?

Get an Openreach Huawei 612 off eBay and unlock it easily. There is a stats program written by forum users here that is great on that, and loads of advice/expertise. Up to you what you tell Zen then.
The indispensable man or woman passes from the scene, and what happens next is more or less the same thing as was happening before.

This is exactly what I did, the firmware is easy to find and the update process is pretty simple.
You are still using a BT OR modem it just happens to be unlocked...
Cheapest on "Buy it now" is currently £45 on the Bay.

Is there a preferred 612 model/revision to purchase?

It has to be 3B.

I had the approved VMG1312-B10A, but like all combinations I have tried it was rubbish. Lost my temper in the end and put it out of its misery. see it here.
