Good afternoon
I have recently started using an Asus DSL-AC68U modem with my SSE Fibre Broadband service as a direct replacement for the supplied Technicolour TG589vac and separate Openreach modem. I've got it working after a bit of tinkering, however I'm only achieving 57Mbps downstream, whereas with the Technicolour+BT Modem I had approx 66Mbps.
There are a lot of options in the Asus, and I wonder if anyone could advise please on correct settings, or perhaps other possible causes of my drop in speed.
Kind regards, David

Is the 57 Mbps the downstream sync speed? Or a speed test result?
Some devices perform better on different lines, and it is an expensive game sometimes to figure it out.
Generally on the connection speed side, so long as you have a VDSL2 sync you've got the settings correct.

Hello Andrew
Thanks for your reply. I agree, I'm a little disappointed with a reduced speed - it wasn't exactly the desired outcome from the new router purchase!
It's a speed test result, from http://www.thinkbroadband.com/speedtest.html
In settings, I have a drop down field called "DSL Modulation". It's currently set to "Auto sync-up", but I could change it to VDSL2 or VDSL2+, if you think it might help?
BR, David

Sorry - my mistake - there isn't a VDSL2+ option. Just "VDSL". I guess I should select this rather than "Auto Sync-Up"?

No such thing, at least in the UK, as VDSL2+. All Openreach FTTC is VDSL2.

Are you connected to a Huawei cabinet? The drop may be due to G.INP being turned off.

Thanks for the responses. I've now reconnected the Openreach modem, and using the Asus as a router only. My speeds are now back up to approx 65Mbps. So it seems to be an issue with the Modem in the Asus? Are there any 'tweaks' to make it perform more like the openreach one?
Sorry for the confusion re VDSL. There definitely ISN'T a VDSL2+ option!
I'm not sure if I'm connected to a Huawei cabinet, how do you tell?

Using latest Firmware Version 3.0.0.4.378_9212 on the Asus, came out 15th December 2015.

Ta. That's definitely the firmware I'm running - I upgraded it last week. I can't see anything which relates to Huawei though - is it in some log file somewhere?

Thanks BatBoy. Looks like it's a Huawei cabinet. The Openreach modem is a white ECI box, if that makes a difference. So, given it's Huawei, is there anything specific I can configure on the DSL-AC68U modem to improve the speed do you think?
Thanks

The VDSL Profile needing to be set to 17A of course, not the 30A depicted.

The modem in the Asus router seems to be a problem and Asus seem to be unable to sort out the firmware despite repeated attempts. The download speed via the modem in my Asus router is approximately half what I get with the Openreach modem, and it drops out regularly. As soon as I put the Openreach modem back on my download speed goes back to normal again. I use my Asus in router-only mode now. On the Overclockers website there is a 60+ page thread about the Asus DSL-AC68U. Mostly discussing similar problems, although a few do seem to find that it works OK.

If it's a Huawei cabinet then you won't get G.INP with a ECI modem, you'll need a Huawei HG612 3B for it to activate, & you then might squeeze a bit more out of your connection.

Thanks all, much appreciated. I'll have a look and see if I can pick up a secondhand HG612 3B.
Thanks again.

Someone has posted their settings on the Zen forum which might help

Thank you! I reverted back to the ECI open reach modem, but I'm going to give the Asus modem another crack, so thanks for this.
PS if anyone reading this wants an ECI modem (and currently has a Huawei HG612 3B) - I'd be willing to swap! I'm on a Huawei cabinet. PM me.
