Virgin Media Cable My Street Email Confiming Rollout

[link to this post]

Just received an email from Virgin Media indicating that they have added my postcode to their rollout plan. As I am currently on a sub 1.5 Mbps line with no immediate hope of BT FTTC, this is really good news. However no timescale has been given on when this may happen. Basically can anyone advise on how long I have to wait before the rollout happens?

Genuinely a piece of string. This just means that they have planned your postcode. I have postcodes near me that have been planned and aren't going to be built to for years.

If your address is a public road it shouldn't be too long.

Well considering we were on the BT Commercial rollout for about 5 years, and have just been removed due to "issues" we havn't been included in the BDUK process so far. So any news is good news I suppose.

I got an email from them today as well. Nothing as specific as adding my postcode, just something vague about "Your neighbourhood looks good, we're looking to make it even better". So nothing confirmed or denied then really.

I received the same email yesterday. I checked the Where and When checker shortly after and BT have updated my area from Under Review to being in the "Design Stages", so I wonder if Virgin have now decided to look at coming to this area to compete.

I think it was a generic email to everyone who registered. I got one yesterday basically saying, tell everyone in your area if you want us to come.

Virgin are unlikely to roll out into areas that are in BT plans.

They are quite happy to deploy to areas that already have FTTC. They've done it to about 20,000 premises so far in this city alone.

They're going to find it hard to NOT do this.

With the contracts currently in place, superfast coverage is going to hit 95-96%. If VM want to grow their coverage by something like 15% they've *got* to overlap coverage for most of it.

This is the email I got

Hello Lee,
were planningdrum rollto supercharge MK42 xxx

Heres some super-good news for you were expanding our network to your area. Well do all we can to connect your home so you can have supercharged entertainment, although every now and again we come up against an obstacle that stops us from doing so. But dont worry, we always do our best to get around them.

Our next generation optical fibre will bring speeds of up to 200Mbps right to your home all thanks to the magic of our DOCSIS®3 cable making it the fastest widely available fibre broadband out there. Plus with our telly, youll be able to tuck into up to 245 channels, including lots of Sky favourites like Sky1 and Sky Living.

Want it all even sooner? Share Cable My Street below to get the word out to your neighbourhood. Its all about people power, you see &ndash. The more people that say they want us, the more likely we are to supercharge your street.

Then sit tight and well confirm when our services are available well be with you as soon as we can. And if you have any questions about our plans to connect your area, its well worth checking out our FAQs.

All the best,
The Virgin Media team

Anyone had this email in a rural area? I'm trying to figure out if the email has indeed gone to everyone or just to people within a few miles of an existing network.

Not got anything either, the last email I got from them was Jan 2015 when they said that they was installing in my area over Jan 2015 to Feb 2015.

Not seeing anything happening I phoned them giving all my details where I was then told yes they are going to do my actual road some time March 2015, funny enough that never happened.

I was then promised over the phone April, then May, June July etc.

It turns out my area around my road in in the no go zone, where as most if not everyone around us can get either Fibre (FTTC) or Fibre by Virgin Media, and what can we get, oh we can get the super doper ADSL (well just about) even though we have all the FTTP hardware, that that's another story.

Either way it kind of sucks.

TBH, I wouldn't take any notice of what they say until you see them installing their cabinets down the road.

I'm hoping VM in-fill our road.

I believe the road has or will shortly be handed over to Amey (BIrmingham City Council's PFI), almost four years after the developers left site.

They were always interested but couldn't do anything because of the road status.

BT ADSL customer getting 1.7 Mbps (0.6 Mbps up) on a new road / new build development
CAB not FTTC enabled, not part of the 66% commercial plan. Not a BDUK area.

I've had the email and it relates to an area probably 3 or 4 miles from the nearest network. It's a small town with absolutely no cable infrastructure at all so it seems unlikely Virgin would bother. Lots of big detached houses and large semis so it's not even like it has dense housing.

Icarus, I'd recommend a look at what's happening in the next 12 months in Kippax, West Yorkshire, and surrounding villages including Great Preston, Allerton Bywater, Mickletown Methley, Swilington. They are going out quite some way from current build and aren't shy about digging a few kilometres to get there.

Well the email that I got had our postcode in it, and after a phone call they stated that all homes down our road and side roads was part of their new project, but after several phone calls over several months I made a complaint and got my call escalated a few levels until I spoke to some guy that told me they will never be cabling up my area due to it being a conservation area, I asked do they have plans in the near future where they responded with "not in the next 15 to 20 years at least", which sucks.

I then gave my opinion of the fobbing off and hung up.

What annoyed me was our post code was listed in the email and was confirmed over the phone at least several times and that a surveyor will be sent out which I was also told several time on the phone.

Well in each of the several phone calls to VM I was promised that they are doing my area (including my actual road), a surveyor and a visit to explain what work would need to be done to install their service like digging up the garden and drilling in walls to install their cables etc.

None of these happened.

Now VM is available everywhere all around us except my road and side roads, its like we are in a bubble isolated from everywhere.

And to top that BT are dragging their feet to complete the FTTP that they started to install back in end of 2011, and their sad excuse is weather.

So what do we have at the moment sodding c+rappy ADSL2+ that is getting worse all the time.

Just make me mad and laugh at the same time.

Not so different from here, also in London, 75 properties all on 2+km EO lines. We are surrounded by properties able to access both FTTC and cable., 15 of the properties are less than 3m from a VM cable in the road with all the other properties in the road having access to VM. We've even paid BT to install an AIO cab we are so desperate and now we have Lambeth preventing BT from completing the necessary work using a mythical Section 58 notice on a road on which they have done no work for over 25 years.

My feeling is that VM don't give a d$$n for what customers or potential customers might want. The state of their cabs and cables round here is appalling so don't have a clue as to how many customers they might actually have - perhaps they've given up although when checking using an adjacent properties address they say they are available.

I've just checked using the address of a property that abuts one of our cluster that says OK, you're in a VM area, yet moving to the next property in the road, one of our cluster, it says no, and to register your interest. At least BT had an excuse for not providing us with the ability to order an FTTC connection, EO lines, but for VM there is no such excuse.

Looking on roadworks.org they're doing some work in the area. Make sure you select the 12 month date option if looking on roadworks.org

On roadworks.org select the Email alerts option and setup a search area where you want alerts of permits/notices.

The option to search by date is only as good as when the permits/notices are received and processed by the relevant highway authority. If they are received/processed a few days before the proposed start date then the 12 month option is kind of redundant.

I wouldn't rely on or hope for VM to roll out to your area, reason I say this is because they said to me they was going to roll out here and not long after they canceled and this is not the first time they canceled on us. Just down the road people can get VM's Service and I don't see why they cannot just have us as a infill frown

I keep meaning to set one up for Virgin, still have one active for BT.

Only thing with the email alerts is you only get them on the days the permits are for, so looking at the 3 month or even 12 months option does give some insight as to what's planned. It would be useful to be able to filter by the company that's responsible for the works.

I'm not going to rely on VM coming to my area, but considering they've applied for plenty of works permits relating to installing fibre they do appear to be committed.

CH46 as in Leasowe? If so be more specific.

There is some old cable infrastructure there, ducts with nothing in, cabinets etc. Also it's close to the network in Moreton or Wallasey Village. So I do think that will be one of the first new areas in Wirral.

I live close to the VM network and have seen some recent infilling in streets nearby but judging by what friends have said about VM in the area, I think I'd stick with BT anyway.
