No offer of an out yet from Plusnet contract

[link to this post]

Not sure if the change to T&C's at Plusnet affects me, however dreaming that it may be a possibility I have started looking at better alternatives...
1) I'm on a 40/2 deal with PN including phone and extras such as anytime calls though TBH we make so few calls it may be a waste of money, however since taking this deal, I have started to exploit Cloud storage, Onedrive and iCloud.
2) In pursuit of a better deal both price and UP speed I note many other subscribers to PNet are on much higher upload speeds.

I see FREE broadband, including Anytime calls from SSE for 18 months and cheaper line rental pricing too, BUT then see on here lots of posts regarding Daisy backbone which ends up with such contention at periods of the day which tells me that I must not look the gift horse in the mouth

Any advice regarding getting better upload speed; getting more for my buck; about becoming a possible SSE lemming and going from poor/good to over the contention cliff would be very much appreciated, all alternatives will be welcome.
With fibre broadband, line rental, anytime calls and caller Id display I am paying just a tad under £40 squids p. month

Many thanks for any guidance
Jamie

I'm still looking at SSE, especially now some people are reporting things are on the up, still quite cautious though.

The email i received from plusnet mentions that my upload speed would go from 20Mb to 9.4Mb

were increasing the download speed limit of your fibre broadband from up to 38Mb to up to 52Mb, which means you might find your connection gets faster
Were also making some changes to the maximum upload speed from up to 19Mb to up to 9.4Mb. These changes are happening on 1st August.

When i was on Fibre Extra 80/20 : My best speed up is 11Mb and down was 65Mb that was on brand new cabinet.within the 2 weeks cooling off period , The download dropped to 55Mb, so i changed down to the 40/20 product

If your going to get a speed increase both ways i wonder because of that you may not receive a email ?

All Plusnet phone customers will be getting an email by the end of July informing them that the price is going up for line rental on the 1st September 2016.
So once you get that email, within 30 days inform Plusnet that you wish to leave because of the price rise and that they need to remove any exit charges on your account. Then switch to your chosen ISP.
The timescales to do this are given in the email as well.

Yes this did occur to me. So will the price increase alone not give me the right to cancel then?

You aren't going to get a speed increase. The changes for you are:

- line rental rising by £1;
- Anytime calls rising by 50p;
- calls to landlines outside your plan rise steeply;
- mobile call charges fall slightly.

If you are outside a minimum term on the phone service you can move it anyway. If your FTTC is within a minimum term then that depends on what Plusnet say in the email. If you get an email just for the phone charges.

Just got my email. No mention of BB speeds at all so the comments above seem to be true that I will be stuck with the slow Up speed I get now which is about 1.85 Mbps. The email however does say that I can terminate my contract early without penalty.

So SSE and Daisy is possible. Therefor I was wondering if peeps on here think that the SSE spurt in growing subscribers will mean that the Daisy (/SSE) backbone will have to man up to the speeds being offered by SSE or is this a pipe-dream?

I expect teething problems for a year, if not more at SSE. It is a stack the customers high, charge them peanuts mentality, which is like what tiscali used to be before TalkTalk took over. Performance can never be great at that price. What is worst, the faster speed products 76Mbps attract the heavier users, so the likelihood of congestion is even greater.

You can get some great deals elsewhere, eg with BT, if you factor in quidco cashback.

Been looking at BT but don't know zip about getting Quidco cashback, if you don't mind, could you please take a mo to enlighten me on how to subscribe/get this cashback. Much appreciated

Things have definitely got better this week on SSE after a woeful few weeks. Whether it is a permanent fix? Who knows, but I still have another 17 months to find out!!

I've bit the bullet and switched to SSE, and speeds have improved recently so I'm hopeful they take those sort of situations seriously and act fast.

Once you got email from plusnet about price rise you can cancel contract (but be careful as cancel contract might mistake by PN to put cease on your line as you will be charged by BT for cease your phone/broadband as a result of no service at all) you have to tell them to revert to standard price of line rental and broadband without no contract, so u can move to other isp at anytime.

Thanks for that important input wink However PN have registered the fact that I am leaving and I should proceed with another supplier everything to stay as is until switch.

In looking at alternatives where can I see the advertised upload speed please? Even found nothing on BT. Given that the prime reason I'm moving from PN is my 1.85 Mbps Up speed I really do need to know what this will be. Been looking at BT Infinity 1 49 - 65Mbps DOWN Minimum 35Mbps (*) there must be a caveat on contention for this asterisk. I really need the UP speed to be in writing - anyone know where to look please?

Well having found out that BT Infinity 1 has max upload speed of 9.5Mbps I used Quidco to subscribe. I felt SSE wouldn't be very reliable from reading opinions on here.

Question:- Following the cashback link on my new Quidco account I went through the order process with BT for Broadband & Phone. Thing is there was never any reference to Quidco after that, and as it is the first time using Quidco I'm wondering how long it will take for me to know whether the cashback worked ok?

Just an update on your "speed increase both ways"

I did get out of the contract but no increase in upload speed was on offer I would still have gotten 1.85Mbps Up according to the agent who said I could migrate onto a higher package but that would a) cost me more (not much more) and b) mean signing up for 24 months.
I declined his offer and went with BT

Hi
New member, but have had the email from PN, have been with them for over 20 years (including fish). Currently 40/20, and consistently get 37/18 and no problems.
As others commented, PN will change fro 40/20 to 50+/9, plus extra costs.
Contacted PN and advised that they can do nothing about the 9 UL, only by paying extra for £5 for Fibre plus. I said that I was considering changing (to SSE) as offer was 18 month ultra fibre bb for free, line rental £16pm for 18 months plus £5 for anytime talk, total £21. PN said nothing they could do!!
I explained that we often upload photo files frequently and feared that 9mb would cause issues, but still no change. Have just signed up to SSE, with free Ultra fast fibre connection on 12/7/16 but apparently for contracts signed from 15/7/16 there will be a £30-50 connection charge.
I understand that there have been some issues with SSE service but apparently these occur on a Monday when they have been closed over the weekend, although I was also told that they are currently training a lot of extra staff.
Any one any comments?

SSE is dropping itself off the affiliate sites for a while, so this may also affect some of the cashback deals too, popularity of existing offer is one reason mentioned.

When other providers have done this they vanish from many comparison sites, but should remain on tbb as we just drop the link from affiliate to a natural one.

I got offered a deal to renew for another 24 months fixed at

£15 for 80/20 unlimited + line rental

so £32.99 a month

I download around 500gb a month through netflix and sky box set etc

I really cant knock that considering Plusnet are in a no win situation regarding basic line rental

Who would of thought Line rental is now more expensive than broadband let alone fibre
