"you're not able to order fibre just yet."

Hi All,

I'm doing some digging into what's available for my mother who suffers from speeds of round about 1Mb on ADSL2. Her local cabinet has been going through the build process according to the "superfast openreach" site, however now on doing a query the response is:

"Your cabinet is enabled for Superfast fibre however you're not able to order fibre just yet.
This might be because the length of the line is too long to get Superfast speeds. We're actively looking at other options."

I was a little bit surprised, so I checked a few more postcodes that codelook reported as being attached to this cabinet, and all of them I've tried are reporting this same message. I'm assuming this must be a bug or a temporary delay until the cabinet goes live?

For info purposes the exchange is Huddersfield, and cabinet is 119.

If anybody can shed any more light/educated guesses on this, that'd be massively appreciated.

What does http://www.dslchecker.bt.com report back for her phone number? Assuming she's not with an LLU provider.

It shows ADSL2 and max "up to 1Mb" as per her current experience. No sign of any available fibre products on there.

I've checked a few postcodes and they all same the same.

It could be that the cabinet has just gone live and the database is updating.

Try it again in a week.

I am having a feeling that they have placed the cabinet either outside the exchange, or their cabinet is just too far away from them.

The hidden information on the Openreach Where and when page says they are just too far away, seems they are about 3km from the exchange, so it all depends on where the cabinet is located.

Also a thing to remember, that install was down to go live the first quarter next year, so if its completed there might be issues.

Waiting a week or two might give it time for it to update, but I very much doubt it, but I could be wrong so don't quote me LOL.

It is a bit odd. I've never seen this particular situation before, especially where *all* the attached postcodes I can find say the same. Unfortunately it's been in this state for almost a month, so I'm not holding my breath!

Have you contacted Openreach?

Or if it's a BDUK funded cabinet, the local BDUK scheme may be able to help.

I'll give it a go and see what happens. Will update if it turns out to be something daft!

Just to complete the thread in case it's useful for anyone else this happens to, whatever database oddness that was happening eventually resolved itself. Fibre now ordered!
