Vr900 V eci modem sync speeds

Hi all,
I recently purchased a TP-link Archer VR900 xdsl modem/router to replace my BT hh5 eci modem combo as it is an all in one solution with better wifi and I can also see my line stats.
Unfortunately after installing it I had a drop in my sync speed of around 7 to 8 mbs!
Now my line has never been great as I am some 6 to 7 hundred meters away from my fetch enabled cab.
My speed prior to the swap was around 40mbps and after the swap around 32mbps.
So I put the eci modem back on and am using the vr900 as a router only and my speeds have gone back up.
I know the vr900 uses Broadcom chips so my question is why the large disparity?

Maybe you used the wrong username for the PPPOE connection?

Maybe I'm being daft, but I can't see how the PPPOE username is going to affect sync speeds.

You can't see the sync speeds on an ECI modem

You can if its an unlocked one, or you can reverse calculate it from the IP Profile, or infer it from speed test results.

Maybe you're connected to an ECI FTTC cab? Sometimes matching modem chipset to dslam chipset will give you the optimum sync rate. If you're dead set on using an all-in-one modem router then go for a Netgear D7800 which will play very nicely with your ECI cabinet.

Thanks. Wish I had known that before I forked out for the Archer. Anyway, no big deal I suppose.
@Batboy as Mr Saffron has said I was able to run a Speedtest on the BT wholesale site and could see the change in speed there although I can't look at the line stats of the ECI modem.
I do have the router set up correctly in authenticating the PPPoE using the bthomehub username but thanks for trying to help.
