Extra DSLAM cabinet in Margate?

I was involved in a long-running series of threads concerning FTTC in Thanet, Kent, which includes Margate, where I live. Personally, I have had FTTC since December 2012.

My local cabinet NDTHA 31 has now acquired an entry on roadworks.com stating "(PCP31) 634176,170323 SIDE OF 2 WESTCLIFF ROAD ON, WESTBROOK AVENUE Description:Install 1m of 2 poly ducts in Footway,Provide, Renew or Recover 1 DSLAM street cabinet and base". This relates to activity between 25th January and 7th February.

The only progress so far is a chalked/painted outline of where the new cabinet is to go. I presume this is for a new DSLAM cabinet as I think the old one must be nearly full. FTTC is very popular hare as the ADSL speed is around 2 Mbps. The old cabinet is an ECI one. My initial speed was 80 Mbps, which over time has dropped to 50 Mbps, presumably due to crosstalk.

Yes, several cabs in NDTHA are due to get additional Huawei cabinets to increase capacity

Thank you. I thought that must be the case. I would rather have a Huawei cabinet but I suppose I'm now stuck with the ECI one.

Without being able to check, I'm guessing the works have been carried out now?

Yes, the work has been completed but I've no way of knowing if the new cabinet is in use yet.
That info about Virgin Media is very interesting and yes, I get the same for my postcode. I've been pretty happy with FTTC so I probably wouldn't switch but it's worth knowing that they could be coming, though why they would, I can't imagine.

I hadn't noticed extra cabinets being installed in Margate - I do regulary check roadworks.org. My own cabinet NDBRO18 has a nice new Huawei stood near it, as does one in Ramsgate, and another is scheduled in Broadstairs.

I'm planning on switching cabs when mine goes live, see the thread below for more info, one person already has successfully switched cabs.

PS I get the same result for VM as well, it would be good to have the choice.

The postcode check on the Cable My Street site should give quite a few similar results across Thanet .

As it's Virgin's own site, I'm ok to mention this.

The why they may be coming, densely populated area near to other towns/cities that have a VM presence (Ashford, Dover, Folkestone).
