Just noticed today that BT have upgraded my PCP cabinet with a G-Fast pod.
Does anyone have an ETA from when its installed to when itll be available to order from a trial provider?
|
|
|
Does www.dslchecker.bt.com give any clues?
|
|
|
nope not yet.
Openreach site, just says in scope, but its definitely there

Who's your provider at the moment?

Plusnet, getting confused messaging from them, one minute they were offering a trial, now they have no idea when / if they will be offering it

Try sending a message to dave and Bob Pullen on the forums there, or staff members that post in the FTTP trial forum.
I believe they were on the original trial but not sure about the current pilot. What the larger ISPs (BT Consumer/TT) have been doing is contacting customers when their customers are on a Gfast cabinet that has gone live about joining the trial, so there's not a specific sign up page.

cheers, will give it a try!

Openreach prices for the trial are £99 engineer installation with Openreach modem, and £49 managed engineer install with ISP device.
Products on the trial are 160/30 and 330/50. Both at £119.40pa, which is the same price as FTTC 80/20. I expect that is only for the trial period so the ISPs (and customers?) don't have to fork out extra for the trial.
All prices plus BT Wholesale and ISP markup, and all with VAT to add.
Kindness isn't going to cure the world of all its awfulness but it's a good place to begin. Daisy Ridley.
My broadband basic info/help site - www.robertos.me.uk. Domains, site and mail hosting - Tsohost.
Connection - AAISP Home::1 80/20. Sync 65618/13914Kbps @ 600m. BQMs - IPv4 & IPv6

Bob Pullen at PlusNet says there are no plans for a G.Fast trial at present.

The way Bob has phrased it means that I suspect they are/have perhaps offered it to select customers.

Well maybe, some earlier posts from Bob suggest it could be staff members that could be on a trial. Is there any G.fast in Sheffield/ Leeds area?
|
|
|
I don't believe so.
Previously, they have opened certain trials to select forum members. I've trialled a few things in the past for them.
Edit: Looks like G.fast pilot is in Sheffield. I overlooked that. Will be welcome news to some as Sheffield itself has been a nightmare for NGA broadband.

Leeds is the largest city in the country with zero ultrafast from Openreach. Not that I'm butthurt by it or anything

Definitely G.Fast in Sheffield, I pass cabinets with the installed pods all the time.
TalkTalk - ADSL2+ - 3.5Mbps ↓ - 0.6Mbps ↑

Are you sure they aren't just PCP extension pods?
|
|
|
Positive, I checked a few postcodes on the checker at the start of the rollout when I didn't know what they were (S102SN for example, although it has yet to be activated).
TalkTalk - ADSL2+ - 3.5Mbps down - 0.6Mbps up

Did get excited when I found some in a LS postcode recently, but was Rothwell

Remembering of course those that get G.fast will already have good superfast speeds

The g.fast pods are quite obvious. They are fixed to the PCP and have a bulbous vented front to them.

Now the Openreach 'When can I get fibre' doesnt talk about G-Fast at all, and it did before, and well I have the pop on he cabinet too!
Wasn't it the case that just before a cabinet went live with FTTC? that information about it coming disapeared (on the checkers)?
