Noticeable discrepancy between BT IP Profile and Actual Sync

[link to this post]

Hi all,

I have noticed that the past few days that my BT IP profile has been steadily dropping although my sync rate is holding steady.

Sync rate is 72mbps and the IP profile started out at 70mbps but has steadily fallen to 66mbps.

I am on a Huawei line with G.INP enabled and there are no major CRC errors on the D/S. (U/S is fastpath).

I've tried to force an update of the IP profile by resetting my router (not modem) but this has had no effect. My equipment: HG612 bridge, Asus RT-AC68U router. NTE5C + MK4 SSFP. Plusnet 80/20.

Can anyone please take a look at my stats here: http://pastebin.com/qhyukCLB
and see if there is any reason for this happening?

Thanks, much appreciated.

Have you tried to drop the PPP session and reconnect? Without dropping the sync.

I've tried dropping the WAN connection on my router through its interface and then reconnecting after a minute. I assume this has the same desired effect?

Where are you getting the current IP Profile settings? Plusnet does sometimes seem to lag what is set in the BT Wholesale side, but as Plusnet use the setting too your throughput will be capped by what Plusnet have on record

Using two different references:

BT Wholesale Speed Test (speedtest.btwholesale.com) - shows max d/s as 66.12mbps
Plusnet profile (https://portal.plus.net/my.html?action=data_transfer_speed) - shows max as 66mbps

These figures are usually very accurate to about 96% of my actual sync rate reported on my HG612.

Current G.INP IP profiles are wrong. Still waiting on BT Wholesale to fix this.

Pardon?

Nothing wrong with mine. 63.44Mpbs on 65,618 sync. As expected from the G.INP 0.9669 x sync IP Profile.

It does go haywire on banded lines, but that's a different question.

I had a GEA test forwarded to me on Plusnet forums with no signs that I was banded. So it is very peculiar that there is a ~6Mbps difference between sync and IP profile...

As a sidenote - anyone able to give a quick glance at my bitloading graph to see any indication of problems that might cause this lower speed?

Sorry, you had problems too!

Mine is still wrong, does anyone have any idea on when this will be fixed? Or, is there a person/organisation e.g. BT Wholesale, that I can contact?

I told you. The IP Profile is screwed when the line is banded.

There is nothing wrong with the IP Profile when the line is not banded. Which is the vast majority of lines.

You haven't read my post correctly. Mine is still wrong, so something isn't right somewhere! It may not be wrong for your line, but it is for others including mine!

Doesn't look like my line has been banded. The sync rate fluctuates between 71.9 and 73. Yet the BT op profile stays stuck on 66mbps. Furthemore the plusnet GEA test reveals no banding either on DS or US.

Plusnet forum members have posted that recently people on G.INP have fudged BT ip profiles around 91% instead of the usual 96.9%.

Huawei or ECI cabinets, or both?

Huawei here. I did turn off G.INP and when the line resynced the IP profile was correct, back on and incorrect.

I'm on Huawei cab and experiencing it too.

Excerpt from GEA test plusnet carried out for me:

0.128M-80M Downstream, Error Protection Off - 0.128M-20M Upstream, Error Protection Off

Strange as it doesn't report any G.INP as being on (should say retransmission low).
Also confirms no banding as my actual sync rate does fluctuate from 70-73mbps.

I do find that GEA tests are often wrong and somewhat lacking in detail. I would always go with what the router reports. I really hope this gets sorted soon, because some EU's including both of us aren't getting the correct download speed!

Whatever the issue is, it isn't consistent.

We have Plusnet, 80/20 FTTC, with G.INP on a Huawei 288.

Sync is 79,999 / 19,999

IP Profile is 77.35Mbps, or 96.69%.

Interestingly, since the DLM reset and G.INP reactivation, the IP profile is now correct on my line. I wonder if this problem only occurs when the downstream SNR margin is set to 3, 4 or 5 dB.

Despite multiple router reboots, the IP profile remained at 66.22mbps while sync was 72.14 ~~~91.8%

Today I tried a resync. The sync went down to 71.21. I checked the IP profile again and it was now 65.38mbps. ~~~91.8%

According to kitz, a G.INP + Huawei enabled line should be roughly 96.8% just like your line is. I intially suspected a stuck BRAS profile but this seems to not be the case. There seems to be something else at play here.

See here, a NewtonStar was getting 91.9% on his line last year: http://forum.kitz.co.uk/index.php/topic,17336.75.html - I also note that you contributed to his thread. I seem to experiencing the same profile calculation being applied.
