Help! Scrabbling to confirm Fibre in our 1st home

The good lady and I are a fortnight away from moving into our 1st home. Sitting last night dreaming of what projects I plan to tackle I realise I have not ran any speed estimates on the property.

What followed was a panicked soon-to-be homeowner raiding the internet to find any way to avoid his worst fears (slight over exaggeration) - a <2Mb/s broadband connection speed!

From checking with the http://dslchecker.bt.com it would seems the property has FTTPoD. However, from the sage advice available on this forum I am now aware FTTPoD isn't of much use unless you are a tycoon, ISP or preferably both.

I notice however that by playing around with the a few sites (http://dslchecker.bt.com/ https://www.homeandwork.openreach.co.uk/ http://maps.thinkbroadband.com) that through the same cabinet (cabinet 33, Cumbernauld) a property within 200m of mine has FTTC availability.

I will soon start down the route of recurring calls to Openreach in an attempt at gaining an explanation however fear they will simply tell me I am too far away from the exchange. I will accept this if need be however I hope to exhaust all options 1st.

I guess what I'm getting at is has anyone any advice on avenues to go down? I read on a previous post that errors can happen and openreach can miss connections. Thought best to ask advice of more experienced heads on how to approach this.

Ideally we need at least the postcode, if not the address of the property.

What does the DSLChecker actually sau for your property using te address or a current occupiers phone number - a screenshot should be enough.

If not wanting to share the postcode publically get it to me in email or private message and will take a look

Cabinet 33 is at https://www.google.co.uk/maps/search/PALACERIGG+road...

Thus your problem is a simple long distance from the cabinet, based on the postcode I am not surprised FTTC is not offered, i.e. there is a point at which ADSL/ADSL2+ speeds beat FTTC and the mention is dropped from the BT Wholesale checker at that point.

So sorry not good news, the speeds the property 200m away will be getting will not be brilliant either.

Mr S has given you an answer - Cabinet 33 is quite a way off, maybe 3 km and possibly more. At that distance you would see FTTC at about 2Mbps ... so very little difference.



Where is the house 200m away? what speeds are estimated for them?
