FTTC availability issue

Hi. My wife works in West London, postcode W10 5XL. She's attached the cab 46 on Kensal Green exchange. It's one of just a few in the area that are not FTTC enabled and at the moment her office gets about 12Mb via an ADSL connection. This is a nightmare in a shared office. No access to Virgin or any other options apart from paying a fortune for Fttpod. They are a charity, so there's no chance they could afford it.

A few months ago, the cabinet came into scope to be upgraded. We've followed the progress day by day... tracking the progress from exploring/in scope/desing/survey and on to build. Due to be live by August, the pcp was replaced first as it was ancient, about two months ago. Plans then appeared on roadworks.org for dslam installation. These came and went. No dslam appeared. Homeandwork now has jumped all the way back to 'exploring solutions'. What went wrong?

This cabinet serves a multitude of businesses with no other options, surely it ought to be a priority?

Can anybody shed any light on why this has failed so badly?

Many things could have gone wrong - they might have found that getting power to the cab was exorbitant or ducts might be blocked, planning permission may have got refused, locals might have objected, etc. Not uncommon that this can happen.

BT often didn't prioritise business cabs as it damages their revenue on other products.

The FTTPoD product wouldn't be an option as that is only available where FTTC is available. However, there are various lease line options and they might find they could get a lease line at a semi-reasonable cost if they shop around.

Is it a predominantly business or residential community? If the latter it will be higher on BTs list than a business locality.

As a stop gap - can they afford to double up and have two ADSL connections?

It's mixed about 50/50 - one street block of houses and one row of businesses/charities. It's also quite a small I guess, compared to the area served by other cabinets.

If has got to the build stage, surely planning permission wouldn't be an issue? I would have thought that might be dealt with earlier on.

I guess a second adsl line is an option, but then they'd also need some kind of load balancer too. They aren't exactly rolling in cash sadly.

Planning permission is unlikely to be an issue unless it is in a conservation area or the pavements are narrow. What are the residents like? Do they have money to spend and would they go for FTTC if available - you probably don't know, however getting them to complain to BT will carry more weight than a business.

Yes you might require additional hardware to manage two lines, but it is likely to e cheaper than having a leased line.
