No master socket

A house I'm buying has no normal master socket. It has a weird grey faceplate in the porch that says "PostOffice Telecommunications". From that two tiny little phone sockets have been wired off into different rooms:

I've never seen one of these before.

Is this going to be a problem - getting OpenReach ... or anything else.
I believe the road does have both FTTC and cable.

What do the sockets look like? Have you unscrewed one to see what is behind?

I've not opened the grey thing. The other sockets are what you would expect to see on the end of a cheapo DIY phone extension. Too small to dismantle or have anything else inside.

There are masters in small 65 mm square boxes - and they look a bit like teh cheap extensions. Can you put up an image of one?

Unfortunately I don't have any photos. I would have thought they were both smaller than even that size.

That is a perfectly normal BT66 and, as such, is no problem.

Your description of the sockets within the property suggests that there might be cause for concern. However without sight of how everything is connected together the situation is currently an unknown.

The worst case scenario is that you would require an Openreach technician's visit "to normalise the wiring and to fit an NTE5/C with SSFP".

The key phrase is within the quotation marks, above.

The replies you have been given are correct, as to wether the set up is 'star wired' would be revealed by a further photo of whats inside the 'grey box (A BT66 is the Openreach term for them)

As far as I'm concerned, all the weird piddly internal sockets can be removed. I only need one decent one.

When I move in and want to get BT Infinity ordered, what would be the quickest way to ensure it can all get sorted - preferably in one visit?

You can request a "managed install" from your broadband provider, that way is the safest option as an Openreach engineer will be sent to your house to run a quality test on the phone line as well as upgrade the socket to ensure compatibility with FTTC
