Fibre install in 2 weeks, and master socket move

So, at long last today was the day I could place an order for fibre - hooray! I have a couple of questions for you good people. I'm upgrading from Sky ADSL to Sky Fibre.

1) Will I lose service for long as part of the switch from ADSL? The Sky bod on the phone couldn't tell me.
2) I assume once they make the switch to FTTC then ADSL will no longer work, is that correct?

I've also arranged for BT Openreach to move the master socket (about a week after likely FTTC activation), so I can plug straight into it, instead of using an extension cable. The old/current master socket has an NTE5 faceplate on it:

3) Should I ask the Openreach engineer to re-use the faceplate on the new master socket?

Once FTTC is turned on, you get no ADSL signal at all.

Should be 30 minutes to an hour of downtime, assuming the ISP has you all set up on their end, sometimes a provider waits for the job done nod from Openreach before switching you on, so can give a longer gap.

On the NTE5 if paying for the engineer visit then go for the new kit

I am paying for it. Do they put a filtered faceplace on as standard nowadays then? Or do I need to request that (and would that be included in the cost)?

Erm , not really sure, I would assume it would stay live until they link the two cabinets and you are then switched over, or else they would clash.

This would cause a drop in connection and if already using the new supplied ISP Router it should just reconnect up.

I would if they are there to move the master socket, they would normally just replace the whole master socket with a brand new one where you wanted the master socket, within reason that is.

Ah, an interesting idea you just gave me. Can I plug in the new Sky Q Hub they're sending for fibre and use it for ADSL while I wait for fibre activation?

I wouldn't call VDSL as the same as ADSL.

VDSL allows up to around 55Mbit down and around 3Mbit up.
VDSL2 allows up to around 100Mbit down and around 100Mbit up.
VDSL2-Vplus allows up to around 300Mbit down and around 100Mbit up.

Ok, thanks for the clarification. The key point for me from that is that FTTC at 76Mb must be at least VDSL2 and therefore I should expect, as per MrSaffron's comment, that the Openreach engineer should fit a new filtered faceplate to the new master socket.

You will / might still get slowdown in the evening due to other people using the internet.
You notice it more on the higher speeds, I know I notice it a lot.

You could just plug it in and try it, if it works give it a trial run.

I know the BT Smart Hub didn't like my ADSL2+ connection after a few days where it would just keep dropping the connection all over the place.

But if you do the trial run on your ADSL Connection and it seems ok, you know you can swap it over the night before or on the day of the install and it should just re-connect back up itself on the switch from ADSL to FTTC.
