Hi all,
Long time since I have posted here, work and family seem to have got in the way!!
Anyway's there I was minding my own business when what did I see being installed on the PCP serving my address? Only a brand new G.fast Pod. Over the next could of days I could see the fibre being run to the new pod. I suspect it still needs the new line cards etc to be installed but I am looking forward to seeing the new predicted speeds on the DSL checker and some services being made available.

That's just a PCP extension to allow more space for lines. It's not a G.Fast pod.
Usually happens when there's a new housing development planned, or when a second FTTC cab is to be built/more tie pairs are needed for additional line cards in existing FTTC cabs.

That's not a gfast pod. It's just a copper extension

Bah, the guys fitting it told me it was for ultrafast BB, must have been winding me up then!

Must be gutted now as the pic doesn't look like g.fast pod! A long waiting list back on the drawing board.

I was wondering why we were getting it so quickly when it is still in a few trial areas. Will just have to suffer with my 80Mbps FTTC
|

|
Pretty sure I spotted a new G Fast pod attached to cabinet 35 at Pultney Road, junction of Lime Grove in Bath today, it's other side of road from Co-operative Funeralcare ( BA2 4HP).
Will have a closer look tomorrow & get a photo.

Very odd strange, it only has one property address on this cabinet, just one property. Don't know why Openreach choose to have this cabinet 35 as a new G.Fast pod because of just one property in this cabinet area. And also why is FTTC as well (one property isn't a good return of investment profit for openreach)

In Twerton in Bath there is a cabinet which had a gfast unit fitted some time ago. My mum lives in Bath and her cab is in the process of getting the pod at the moment (combe down area) - avon line have been here fitting cables and drilling the pcp recently - will get a pic if you wish..
Sky Fibre Pro - Zyxel vmg8324 (v14 bridge mode) + PFSENSE 2.4.0 with ipv6 - ECI cab, G.INP disabled as of 8th April 2016

Spotted one just like that in Cardiff a couple of days ago, thought it was a G-fast pod but as not in published rollout area thought it may have just been an extension. They are springing up all over the place now.

1 property! Really?

Managed to get a closer look today, definitely a G Fast cabinet, there were 3 engineers wiring it up this morning, will get a photo later, as they wouldn't say much, so I didn't push taking a photo.
I thought that Cab 35 serve the new Student Castle complex at 33-34 Pultney Road, as they will have 100 Mbps available there, according to posters slapped on the hoardings, but they are served by Cab 31 at bottom of Bathwick Hill.

Any photo would be welcome. It's sound like Openreach are now speed up g.fast in this area of Cabinet 35 to all property but question is how long before it went LIVE.

Dreadful poor by contractor installed of g.fast pod. The corner edge is block pathway with a horrible grey and green colour. .

Yeap. Looks very odd when driving towards the back of the cab and seeing the case stuck out in pathway. The other end would have been much better..

I think g.fast pod installing must be on the right side of the cabinet?

Nightglow's image seems to show a pod fitted to the left of a cab, so I can only assume it's possible.

Can be either side according to engineer I spoke to.

I'm looking forward to seeing how they get the pod onto this guy. It's quite busy and there's not an abundance of room but I'm sure they'll manage.

Thought they going to put two pods on this pcp cabinet (left and right side) because of two large FTTC cabinets (huawei 288)

I doubt they will place a pod on a PCP extension even if there was enough space
I wonder what their future plans are to deal with gfast capacity?

Well only one PCP expansion pod is usually necessary, isn't it, i.e. the first DSLAM would have been built for it and fully connected without a pod.
|
|
|
|
I suspect a bigger pcp or somehow denser block terminals to take up less space.
|
|
|
|
It's a good question. That's a fairly big cabinet, but with very high FTTC take-up and needed the PCP extension to go along with the install of the second cabinet.
A single pod would be fine even here if they can get the tech to 96 ports per pod.
This guy is fairly sharpish in the commercial programme once the pilots are done so will find out.
|
|
|
|
There's plenty space on the left!
Certainly wouldn't like to be the engineer working the PCP if fully subscribed though. 288+288+96? extra pairs.
Theoretically could end up being 384+384+96
