OR FTTP in new-build Flat

Hi there,

I just returned from viewing a new-build flat in Acton. I was told everybody in the building could get a BT line, but the sales associate didn't know if it was plain copper or actually FTTP.

So, looking at the picture below, that surely does look like FTTP to me (the main giveaway being the Fiber modem and the fiber connecting to the OR termination unit. This should be FTTP, right?

If it is, what options do I have? Would I still be limited by the 80/20 bandwidths offered for the VDSL2 based service?

I am currently with Zen on FTTC, they do seem to mention FTTP on their website, altough I was not able to find out if they (or any other ISP) are offering higher bandwidths for those on "real fiber"

That is indeed FTTP.

FTTP currently has a max speed of 330/30.

I think there are 4 bandwidth options available - 40/10 80/20 220/20 330/30.

55/10 also.

I'm not sure if plusnet on their fixed trial offer 40/2 to mirror their FTTC offerings.

Yes they do, the choices are presently 80/20 or 40/2, not forgetting that the PN FTTP 'trial' is only open to existing customers, so unless there's also a copper line into the OPs flat, s/he's snookered. Although I guess if they changed their existing Zen FTTC account to PN FTTC that would be a way in.

Yeah seems odd though, they've had it in trial for years now.

BT retail offer it, and given they're essentially one in the same, I'd have expected PN to have opened it up for general sale by now.

PlusNet and BT Retail are not essentially the same. They have the same parent company but they have different business models offering different products (one of the biggest differences being that PlusNet lower package is 40/2 whereas BT is 55/10).
