It looks like we're gonna get fibre!

Openreach have just installed a new Huawei cabinet next to our old cast iron one, so I assume that means that, after years of saying "no chance - too few connections to the box" we are getting fibre

Question: what sort of speed can we expect - The box is about 3.5k from the exchange, and we are about 500m from the box.

Whatever we get it's bound to be better than the 0.4 - 1.3 we get at present - isn't it?

We're tantalisingly close too!

You may even get 70 ,,, it will all depend on the amount of background noise and cross talk. At 440m, I am seeing 79Mbps ... and that has dropped from when I first had service installed.

If you are an early customer on the cabinet you will see a very good result but remember as new customers are added the rate will drop and that can be considerable. Upstream will almost certainly be a full 19Mbps

Well at about 450 meters I'm seeing 46/6.

Strange thing is I was almost certainly one of the first on the cab, but it's my upstream that's been hit dropping from 12 to just below 6 now. Downstream has fluctuated up and down over the years, but not changed a great deal.

Like length as measured or distance you think you are?

If you are a geniune 450m line length then either aluminium or poor quality copper.

Line length measured by a helpful engineer on another forum, which also coincides with the distance of the most logical route that I worked out.. Unfortunately he couldn't access the make up of the line as he's not from my area, but we presume there is some aluminium involved.

PS the estate was built in the 70's.
