Major speed increase 55mb to 79mbit

Ok long story as short as possible ..

I have been with plusnet for around three years now on there fttc 80mbit service, when we first joined we were estimated around 70mbit but upon connection at 6db we received 56mbit and 20mbit up.

We complained and had numerous engineer visits due to speed slowing to 20-30mbit even though in sync at 56.

After all the visit's we were still at 56meg no change at all and were told by at least 4 different bto engineers that this was the max the line was capable off.

Roll on until this year when around march g.inp was enabled on our line and the snr dropped slowly from 6db to 3db increasing the sync to 65mbit, obviously we were happy it had increased although we were still getting random slow throughput on bto tap1 tests etc so more engineers came out.

And around july-aug this year we had an engineer at the house for 2 full days checking the pairs in the cabinet and making sure everything was as good as possible up the telegraph poles etc etc.

This ended up with them loading the port with 500m of cable to see if what we were getting was right or if the port was faulty. After testing they found the port was not performing right and so a lift and shift was done (after many dlm resets i may add).

This made no difference and we were told the line is error free and there was nothing more they could do.

My line had now crept up to 72mbit sync by now from the 56 original one yet nothing had been changed apart from the lift and shift and that made no difference at the time it was done.

My line is roughly 415 meter from the green cabinet which is a huwaei and i use an hg612 unlocked as my modem and the plusnet hub1 as my router for wifi

Now this mon day i checked dsl stats and my snr for downstream had gone up from 3.3 to 5.5 yet same 72mbit sync so i restarted my router and when it came back up my line was in sync at 79997 with a max of 80700, my upstream was 19999 and the max had gone up from 22mbit to 24246 ?!?

My latency has increased around 8ms from 13-15 to 20-22 but all my stats look the same as they did before the speed increase.

G.inp still on the download as before and nothing on the upstream. So what's changed as no work has been done on this 56mbit max connection we joined with, and plusnet say nothing there side has changed.

The customer relations person i deal with who overseen my account with all these problems has asked bto if any work has been done local to me and the answer was no.

Sorry for the long long winded post but here are some stats before and after as i would love to know what changed if anyone has any idea

Eng notes:
80meg at the cabinet but getting 50meg sync speed, advised Paul he will need to test back at the cabinet confirm 80meg sync, put a load on the port prove port not faulty, if port OK then he needs to work down the line to make improvements e.g. improve D side etc. Advised Paul 2/3rds of sync speed with an ethernet cable.

cse Paul cse has retained this task from yesterday previous notes state slow speed issue cse to break down d side to locate any issues says faults located on the port so agreed to try another port Tried next spare port 0/0/36 D/e338 confirmed sync and d/tone. Lift and shift requested

Totally confused and again sorry from the stupid long (hardly short winded) post !

Could be something as simple as a crosstalker has ceased their service.

It's the shift from SNR target of 6db down to 3db. (Yours is at 3.4db downstream) the OR rolled out.

My connection went from ~63 to ~79. It re-syncs most days now though, not that I'm complaining.

It shouldn't be resyncing most days, though. My line remained in sync for over 20 days on a 3dB DS SNRM and that was with the BT "not-so" Smart Hub!

Mine certainly is. Best it's managed is 2 days so far. I'm using a Fritzbox though. I guess the line isn't very stable at 3db (it would stay up for weeks at a time on 6db - usually until I rebooted it for some other reason).

Once a day shouldn't upset DLM too much though I hope, as I'm enjoying the extra speed.

Now if only they'd liven up the G.Fast box on my cabinet so I can see if I'm close enough to benefit!

Yeah, I find DLM can be quite erratic with the lower DS SNRM's. But, seen as we don't seem to have any clue on what its thresholds are, we just have to watch with interest. LOL.

Yes, I'm interested in the G.fast rollout, but seen as my line is circa 900 m long from the cabinet, I highly doubt I'll be able to get a service unless Openreach attach a node to a telegraph pole close enough.

What speeds do you currently get? And prior to the 3dB change?

43.8 Mb on 4 dB. Have had 48.x on 3 dB.
