g.fast rollout

[link to this post]

Hi guys,

BT have added a G.fast pod onto our cabinet PCP 95 in Leith. (vents etc). The guys disappeared a couple of weeks ago so i'm assuming it's all complete and setup (it's got a label saying to attach sticker to it).

Question is, is there any way of actually ordering it? Or checking if it's available? BT broadband still shows upto 80mb being available so not on their checker yet.

Cheers

If the usual BT Wholesale or Openreach checker does not say anything about G.fast then its not ready.

Lots of pods have appeared but very few still ready for orders, its thought that maybe they will time it in a big announcement at once, i.e. to drive publicity and maybe get more people ordering.

I've spotted one today too near me on PCP 24 in Belper. Came as quite a surprise as it's not been mentioned anywhere as a test area.

G.fast pod can be installing onto pcp cabinet at anytime at any place, there will be no report on roadwork.org or anywhere on the openreach when and where checker. Mine is expecting next year to have g.fast around in the summer 2018.

I found one page on the Openreach website that suggests we'll be seeing "G.Fast in scope" as a status sometime...

Why do you make stuff like that up? They haven't even activated the extended trial areas.
Last time you said every cabinet on your exchange was getting a G.Fast pod. There's no possible way you could know when your cabinet is getting a G.Fast pod.

Hi Mr ***********,

Received an update the Good News your Cabinet 8 is in the G.Fast plan but not until August 2018 sorry a 12 month wait sorry. Cabinet 9 is also in the g.fast plan but not ready until September 2018

In terms of FOD service providers are relaunching soon and they will definitely have a consumer product offering.

While i think it may be a while until we get G.fast around here, knowing Hereford it will take another decade, will it be extra cost to the consumer or will it just be like a improvement to what we have?

I am not sure if you are referring to BT or Openreach having the PLC info in their sig, but Openreach does have it in some of their email sigs due to I have several emails from openreach that have it like the following:

I have emails from people at Openreach who all have that same above sig, the only emails from BT that also have that sig is BT Care, even the Exec Complaints staff have their own sigs and have no BT info in it.

So I can see how some people can get confused.

TBH, I don't care who owns who, as long as stuff is fixed when it breaks.

Fair enough, I can only get around 35Mb/s here anyway, I doubt G.fast would make a difference to me. TBH, I am fine with the speed I have, I would not pay more to go faster.

I got the same email back in 2013 when they told me that my cabinet (FTTC) will go live in Feb 2014 and by that time, the email are correct as my FTTC did actally went LIVE in Feb 2014.

Why should I made it up?

Considering the importance of branding and the position of openreach, it's hugely important, even more so considering the position of the person it is purportedly from.

Believe me if that guy had gone rogue and put Openreach Plc in his signature it would have been picked up by one of his seniors in no time. It looks ridiculous and Ive never, ever seen it. There are pre-formatted signatures that are permitted. Anything else is a no no anyway.

I think in addition the BT mail server adds a system generated signature to all external email also, which isnt seen when writing the email. At present Openreach are using the same server as the rest of BT Group. Though that could change soon, who knows.

Also the company registered number is wrong too. In the email it says;

Registered in England no. 1800000

But on companies house its: 01800000

So someone forgot to add the zero before that number. At the very least its been manually typed.
