I used to use speedtest.net regularly and it worked fine but today i keep getting the message below when i run it (this is the beta no flash version)
Could any members who use a PC or Laptop connected by Ethernet try running it and let me know what happens, thanks.

Took a few times to get the above result, first time it said "adblocker error", then I got a zero download result with 17 ping and upload of 16mbps. Seems it isn't very well.

Thanks, i turned my adblocker off and sure enough it now runs but it doesn't start until the adverts have loaded and then its painfully slow, the upload test doesn't seem to want to run and its showing my ping as 244ms and my download 19.27Mbps, it still has not started the upload test so i guess as you say something is wrong.

Which ad-blocker are you using?

Something not quite right here?

Only on FTTC, who need FTTP If I turn AdGuard off results are normal.

Doesn't work with ADBLOCK PLUS or /and no script in ff, but used to work fine, guess they want to spam us with their [censored] adds, oh well until a solution is found back to the flash version i hate ads especially from fraudsters/people traffickers like shave the bearded children, who have imported them into the uk those that our PC deceitful government tried to hide from us, totally unchecked even their real ages

If they are going to force us to view adverts i guess its time to find another speed test site.

There were seven or more ads on the site with blocker off. That's what annoys me about ads: If sites were reasonable with ad usage I probably would never have bothered with blockers in the beginning or now paying for adguard for example but they arent. There are frequently so many ads on some sites that make them just about unusable and or send your eyes & brain wappy. Plus many ads on some sites are malicious or deceitful.

Just used speedtest.net in firefox with AdBlock Plus running and it worked fine here, showing my normal Infinity 2 broadband speeds even over 2.4GHz WiFi. Not sure about no script, never used it.

I can use speedtest.net on my phone as the adverts only appear after the teast has finished, i am using a PC connected by Ethernet (which TT OCE's ask you to use if you have a problem) and the site is now unusable.
I am now using this site it doesn't use flash and will run without you adding a post code - https://www.broadband.co.uk/broadband-speed-test/

It's terrible without an ad blocker. So many animated banner ads. It wouldn't be so bad if they were static adverts, that way it wouldn't lag the browser.

Its going to back fire on them as people will stop using the site.

And you are posting on a site that has its own speed test
http://www.thinkbroadband.com/speedtest
The postcode is preferred but a second click will let you through
There is even a version with no adverts at http://labs.thinkbroadband.com/speedtest or over SSL if you want https://labs.thinkbroadband.com/speedtest
The test can be added to the home screen on mobiles for a more app like experience, without any of the tracking issues apps can carry.
Speedtest.net recently published that Scotland has an average speed of 66 Mbps, clearly they have problems with their tester or their analysis is very foobar.

Thanks for letting us know about the postcode, could you fix it so it doesn't tell the truth as i find the end result where it doesn't show the burst as being the actual full speed depressing.

I just tested it on Edge and Chrome with the ad blocker built into my Security Suit and I see no banners / ads nothing and it works fine.

I can use both, Chrome runs the beta version and like I have already said I have no ads / banners showing up shown >> here << as you can see no ads / banners nothing.

. With Adblock plus, in ff it will possibly depend on which lists you are using, and how it's configured
screen shot
Found the culprit, no script, was blocking the actual host (server) for each speedtest

Use No Script myself (latest version). As you have found out, it does depend on how you have both No Script and Adblock Plus set up. Speedtest Beta screen shot I get No ads, just the site itself.

Why is posting pictures not allowed here?
|
|
|
Because it would end up being abused and visitor volume to police it would be an issue.

I run ublock in advanced mode. speedtest.net is way overloaded with ads so no chance of me whitelisting the entire site.
It works properly with me allowing the following.
cdnst.com noop
cloudconnx.net noop
custdc.net noop
netweaver.uk noop
proxar.co.uk noop
vooservers.com noop
in ublock origin noop means it will still check the domains against filter lists so not a filterlist bypass. So they will only be allowed if not in filter lists you have configured e.g. easylist.
My ublock config by default only allows 1st party and inline scripts for .com. co.uk .net .nl .de .fr .org .gov.uk tld's I think possibly also .uk and maybe few others not checked for this post.
So new tld's that are not widely used including .tv block all javascript by default.
3rd party scripts are blocked by default for all domains/tlds, but over time I have built up a whitelist with a mixture of noop or complete excemption so generally anything of importance now works. Such as payment processors and sites I use regurly.
Ublock origin in this sort of config works very well for security as its similar to noscript on firefox.

Sometimes I think I miss out too much on websites.
To be honest I don't worry about ads themselves, it's the constant referring back (and quite often waiting for) to Google etc that really gets me. Quite often if a page loads slow, I just look at the bottom and it's usually ads that are responsible.
I don't actually ban all ads. Quite a few websites that I use a lot, load fast and the ads don't actually interfere with the workings or downloads. What really riles me is pop under, pop over ads. Fortunately very rare for them to get a look in any more.

Oh I have no issues with ads / banners being displayed on pages, some sites need funding to pay for the services etc, its when they blatantly abuse the page with loads of them, when that happens I block them all from that site.
Just like I could block the video ads on Twitch, but I choose to watch the video.
