Replace Master Socket

[link to this post]

Hi there,

I have just moved house and moving my bt connection from one house to another (both in the same area same cabinet) - and my new house has one of the old bt sockets with no adsl filter or changeable frontplates - and ive had issues with this before and my last house got the socket replaced when my broadband was installed.

Since i have a new plate in my old house is it safe to a) swap the plates b) call bt and ask to replace them or whether you can buy a new one to replace? Or c) just say there is issues and see if they will replace?

I only have access to my old property for a few days so ideally id like to get this socket swapped before but not sure if this is doable?

You are supposed to arrange for BT Openreach to change the master socket and then pay the bill. You can buy the master sockets and filtered face plates on ebay. I would not bother removing the socket from your old house.

Plus, you might move in and find that you have no problems at all.
