Good evening everyone,
I know people are probably asking when will fibre be available in flocks and droves but here is yet another one ..
I have recently purchased a new build home that , to my dismay, has only been on a copper line receiving download speeds of an amazing 180kb/s and upload is non existent.
We have been trying to liase with BT / Openreach about when our property will be able to get fibre and since moving in almost 6 months ago, the postcode checker has always been at the build stage. It has been at this stage since long before we moved in as well while showing no signs of actually progressing. We have also been getting no response from openreach themselves.
To my joy, I have recently seen a cabinet ( a fibre one ) get built right next to our existing copper cab. Unfortunately we cannot yet place an order online and there is no movement from the build stage. Is there anyway we can check when this is due to be completed and we will be able to actually place an order for fibre?

I believe it's only very recently been put in, so may still need power, tie cables and fibre connecting. Could be weeks or months.
Virgin are installing full fibre to the Thanet area, so you may want to consider that as an option.

Hi Ronski,
Thanks for the reply, Yes it was only finished being put in on Friday of last week.
I have seen virgin around however as my home is a new build I don't think it's on their list to do. I have checked the postcode checker on their website and our area isn't yet planned it seems otherwise I would most definitely go Virgin.
So no hope then eh, just a waiting game with no way to get a time frame?
Ps, I love your fibre map in your flair/signature. Thank you for being a beacon of hope lol.
Thanks for your reply mate, appreciated.

With me, the Fibre Cabinet was stood in April but I was not able to order service until July, and it wasn't provided till August.
Look for a silver lock to appear on the Cabinet. It gets this in the very final stages of being commissioned and the silver lock signifies the line cards etc. are installed, switched on and its days away from being RFS.

Hi, I started the map around the end of 2011 or beginning of 2012 when they started doing Thanet, they now seem to be doing the last few cabinets.
VM are aiming to cover all of Thanet, my road has very recently been done, but not expected to be live until early 2018. See here for further info
If you contact CLOKent/PM as per above link I'm sure he/she will be able to confirm. If your'e in the new builds near the Hooden Horse VM have some roadworks planned for Jan/Feb for Nash Rd & the A256 by WWX.
PS. VM's postcode checker says my areas not planned, but as above the Toby's and ducts are installed

A lot of that estate is on cab 38 by the Travelodge, that cabinet does appear to finally be planned, Code Lookup says FTTC being built live by March 2018, but that date could change, for instance for your's it states live by June 2017!

According to BTOR that cabinet is still at build stage, at that stage they installed the cabinet.
Granted that work may or may not of been completed, if it has you will still have to wait for it to complete the Connect Stage where it connects the power and the fibres to the cabinet and then wait for it to be tested and then activated.
BTOR says another 4 or so months as an estimate, so it "might" be sooner or "could" be later.

Yeah I found it really bizzare, one of my work collegues lives on the same estate but at star lane and she is serviced by another cab.
I believe our cab ( 37 ) Is the one by DFS? I am still hopeful that it could go live before Christmas because at present we can't even stream Netflix let alone run our side business from hope - it's all done via 4g at the moment.
The flipside is hopefully virgin is here by end of feb so if our cab goes live in December for example, Do I wait to potentially get the 200mb virgin..

37 is by DFS, Star Lane is served by 31 which is by the roundabout next to Kaspa's. I remember years ago someone in the first lot of houses complaining how bad ADSL was up there, I did suggest they try Vfast Wi-fi but the tree's blocked the signal.
One benefit you will have is all new cabs are Huawei's, which are much better for various reasons than ECI which most of Thanet has. Dependant where you are on the estate I expect you'll have speeds into the 60's and 15 plus up, especially as it should all be new copper back to the cab.
I'm on the Wimpy estate, about 450 meters from the cab and only get 46/6 so as soon as VM is live I will be moving over. I am concerned about Virgins reputation but this is a brand new full FTTP network so have been assured there shouldn't be any capacity issues.
We'll potentially get speeds of 350/20 on business or 300/20 on residential and I'm sure the uploads will be increasing soon to compete advertising wise with Gfast

Hiya Ronski,
Vfast was our first port of call - They even came out and tried to find ways around the blocked signal for us but unfortunately couldn't. A Nice bunch and I am grateful they tried.
We are currently On the very tip of nash road, opposite the various garages there.
Our ADSL is indeed shocking - I think I will hold out for Virgin dependant on when it's available. If for example Generic 80/20 line via Bt or the like is available around xmas/start of the new year and virgin is not available till mid 2018 I'll probably opt for the shortest contract I can with BT and switch over when the time comes. I currently use a 4g connection Via EE, 75£ for 100gb and not being able to stream/download with that due to such a low data allowance is a huge annoyance for the fianc and me.
Moving from Beatrice road where the fibre cab was literally behind the house to this connection has been horrible!
You have been a real help mate and It's truly appreciated. If there's anything I can do to help further enquiries by others I'd be glad to help.
