I agree.

So far I've only seen one guy on youtube in a gfast pilot area setting up his connection.

Is there some kind of NDA on people in a pilot area not to give out information?

Well I'm in Bath, one of the new area's chosen for the extended G Fast trial, cabinet went in several months ago, & nothing, no offer of getting on trial or anything else.

I'm actually in a pilot area, and I'm not seeing any activity beyond the boxes being installed. Nothing is becoming available.

The live premise count has gone from 39,000 to 51,000 in the last 2 weeks, and that's from just randomly finding the pods so likely to be lots more

The map at https://labs.thinkbroadband.com/local/broadband-map is missing the cabs in Middenhall, Suffolk and will get updated later in the week

Not as far as I know.

We have customers live and pending for G.fast services. Just the sample area of who can get a service is relatively small.

Same here.

G.Fast cabinet fitted months ago. Exchange listed on the extended trial list, but no sign of anything on the BT Wholesale Checker.
Have looked up a couple of G.Fast cabinets on the Combe Down exchange (not listed on the extended trial list) and that's not on the BT Wholesale Checker either.

Spotted a pair of OpenReach staff working at a pair of FTTC/PCP cabinets this morning though.

The only place I've seen on the BT Wholesale Checker was a cabinet on the Swindon exchange from the original trial list.

There still a few cabinets which haven't had a G Fast pod added yet in Bath, like Cabinet 46, on A36 Warminter Road junction of North Road & a lot of the older iron cabinets are also bare.
Also been a lot of OR activity at Holburne Park (old MOD site) just up the road.

Is this data from official sources or is it just from peoples general observations of seeing the side pods?

Do I take reports from people and believe them? No

Do I spot live pods when doing other things like daily speed test checks, coverage updates? Yes

Well,Cabinet 46 got reshelled on Monday & today BNE engineers were adding a G Fast pod to that cabinet

Only leaves cabinet 30 & 15 to be reshelled & G Fast pods added in this area.

I'm baffled as to why these aren't being made live. OR must be losing potential revenue leaving them switched off.

Maybe their numbers are good for 2017, and they want a boost in 2018...

Because the reach is very limited, and BT draw enough flak as it is for services not everyone can access.

Even GEA-FTTP, people complain about because all the random non-BT Wholesale ISPs don't bother with it (talktalk, Sky, etc).

I imagine they want a critical mass in order to bring the other ISPs onboard before they bother launching.

The delays are down to several things in my book...

1. Desire to launch in multiple areas at once from a retail partner e.g. no-one in the big ISP has a G.fast product yet
2. The GEA Handover links will need upgrading or additional ones added, particularly a move from 1 Gbps to 10 Gbps so timing will coincide with those
3. There may be local activity for some areas that mean an announcement that ties in with other PR is better

In my tracking number live has gone from 38,000 to 61,000 in a couple of weeks, so more is coming online.

On the not everyone can get it, while true the vast majority of the cabinets I've seen go live are within reach for a nice 100 Mbps or faster and should add while there is often an overlap with virgin media it is far from a total overlap

I think the main factor is that the big customers (BT Retail/TT) don't appear to have the systems in place to support the product yet. Sky will be late to the party.

The back and front end systems need to support the new products, sales and support staff need to be trained etc. I imagine this is what's holding back the launch.

If BT were to make a big PR launch (which I expect they will), there needs to be at least one large ISP that's ready to sell it from day 1.

My money is still on Dec or Jan.

BT retail have long had the systems in place to support such products, in fact most ISPs have, it runs on the same FTTC system as VDSL. What hasn't happened is providers bar TalkTalk haven't responded by offering any packages seeing as very few people are live on the service.

I'm not saying their systems aren't capable of supporting G.fast, but there is a lot of work required for the products to be supported in sales and technical support.

G.fast is a completely different product in terms of the integration needed with BT Wholesale and Openreach's systems. There are a huge number of ordering/fault XML releases that need to be coded in before an ISP can properly launch automated orders and faults.
