TTB to BT Infinity 2 Speed Drop

[link to this post]

I was with TTB and was seeing around 71Mbps and have recently (2 weeks) switched to BT Infinity 2 and I am only getting around 64Mbps which does appear to be in line with the checker on the low end of a clean line. I am pretty close to the cabinet (can see it from my Window).

The cabinet is an Huawei cabinet so I recently switched to a HG612 (was using a Vigor 130) the speeds where the same on both btw, I didn't expect it to so anything other than I've read its best to use a Broadcom chip with the Huawei cabinets.

Please find my line stats below. Anything looks out of the ordinary? thanks in advance. It may just be the way of things but I *might* go back to TTB if the price rises affect me from BT since I only signed up two weeks ago!

Do you have a set of stats with you having the higher speed please? I'm particularly interested in the SNR margin.

It could be that the sync-time figure had been reduced to 5, 4 or even 3dB by the Openreach DLM, and has been reset on the migration. That would account for the drop, and it should self-correct in a while if that is what has happened.

My broadband basic info/help site - www.robertos.me.uk. Domains, site and mail hosting - Tsohost.
Connection - AAISP Home::1 80/20. 200GB. Sync 73724/12601Kbps @ 600m. BQMs - IPv4 & IPv6

Sorry I am afraid I don't because I only recently switched back to the OR modem frown

That's one of the things they don't tell you when you sign up with a new service provider is that it might take a few months to get the optimal speed you were getting before

Thanks for that. Maybe just stick with BT for a couple of months see what happens.

Just an aside - It looks like your sig is at least two ISPs out of date wink smile.

Can you have a look over my graph how is it looking? BT Infinity 2 Connection I am interpreting the results as pretty good (if I am right smile )

The reason for your speed drop is due to G.INP not being enabled yet on your line.

hmm ok, should I ask BT to enable that? or....?

Actually looks like DLM has to reactivate it on its own.

No, just wait. It will come on automatically, providing your modem is running firmware B030SP08 which supports G.INP

Lost G.INP on my line with an ISP move came back a few weeks later, and then also gained a bit more as xDB trial kicked in - 29 Mbps on 1.2km of copper with 33 Mbps sync

Alas an ISP regrade has reset DLM again it seems so back to 24 Mbps for a while

Assuming you were busy using connection from 10pm to 2am that looks good. The spike every 20 minutes or so, maybe some software doing an upload/sync/download with a timer

Note that the checker provides estimates in the form of "line speed", which is the same as the sync speed, not the download speed.

Thus you are currently getting 69Mbps, not 64Mbps.

That spike every 20minutes is an oddity. I suffered it for quite a while and then it suddenly disappeared. It was there even when there was just a modem and router installed with nothing else connected. I have seen it in a few other places too, but could never get to the reason.

I used to get similar spikes, though not quite that frequently.

Nowadays, the only ones I see are the ones triggered by my SamKnows box running its tests.

Mine were usually about 22minutes, but sometimes they would widen to 30 or 40 minutes. I have not had it here for a couple of years though.
