Connect stage progress for Fibre, what happens next?

[link to this post]

Hi, currently in the process of waiting for the Fibre Broadband at my new address, I'm on the outskirts of a small town in West Yorkshire which has a fibre enabled exchange for a while with the centre of town connected, they are now in phase 2 of getting Fibre to the rest of it.

2 months ago the openreach website status for my postcode progressed to Connect stage after the new cabinet went in near me, progress has trotted along. A week later a company turned up installing the equipment in the cabinet, then after a month there were partial road and pavement closures for 3 weeks, as the power cables were dug in to the cabinet and just down the road a new small black cabinet from the power company was also put in with more power cabling. That was an eye opener to how much work is involved, which finished a week ago.

So far in total it's at 2 months of the estimated 4 months availability for Fibre (according to their website), as I kept tabs on the date the status changed. I know that the next stage on is Activation, which usually is a months wait before Fibre orders can be made.

So if equipment is in and power cables put in, does anyone have any experience of what happens next and how much of a Christmas miracle do I need for openreach to keep to the estimated early Feb availability?

Cheers

The cabinets are delivered pre built with the hardware inside .
Generally speaking what is required in no particular order is:
Groundworks for the base and duct entry for the tie cables (Not required for all on one's) fibre and power, fibre tubing and Blowing, tie cables installed and terminated ( except all in ones) power connection and meter, certification and commissioning.
Where this cabinet is along the path is difficult to say but once all the services are connected then commissioning takes place soon after. When it's available to order depends if it's just a standard FTTC install or an infill and if there are existing FTTC services moving from one cab to an infill , which can delay things further.

Thanks for the info, I had the feeling this is mostly down to availability of engineers etc to do the jobs.

I think the company working on the cabinet was called FNS? I may have got it wrong that they were fitting it out, as they could have been hooking the fibre cabinet to the phone cabinet which is right next door. I did notice afterwards that the concrete cover to the ground level service panel between the cabinets had been up. It was hissing it with rain that day (by way of a change for Yorkshire), so they had covers over everything.

Fingers crossed it won't be too long!

Not installing electronics but linking the copper cross connects between the two cabinets most likely.
