New cabinet: how to check availability dates

Hi all,

After years of waiting, delays and date changes to FTTC roll out where I live, it now looks like we are close(!) Workmen have been onsite for the past week installing a new cabinet in the village.

Backstory: The openreach broadband checked had previously gone to "In Build" back to "Exploring Solutions" after they realised (post the supposed "design" and "field survey" phases) that our cabinet was too far out of the village

Exchange: MYRUF - cabinet 3.
Postcode YO26 8LG


My questions are

1) How can I tell when we may be able to order a fibre product?
OpenReach checker just says "in scope"
Magenta Codelook has no additional details
How frequently do these update / which is more accurate etc?


2) Am I right in thinking that ADSL speeds should improve?
ADSL speeds have typically been very poor in the village.. 2mbs for some. Am i right in believing most people should get a boost in speed when the new cabinet comes online, even if they remain on their current ADSL package, as the distance to the cabinet will now be much less?

Any help appreciated.

The could however change slightly, up or down as the noise profile from other lines may change. As people move from ADSL to VDSL there will be less crosstalk from exchange to cabinet but there may well be more noise on the cabinet to premises section (there is power masking to mitigate the effects but it may still change).

When its live the Openreach site will stop saying in scope and will say

Superfast Accepting Orders
Great news, you may be able to order a fibre service.

Plus in the technology section will say FTTC

It should be no surprise that Openreach will be the most up to date, Codelook is a just a copy of what is sent out periodically to the providers and really only of much use if you fully understand what all the fields are telling you.

Existing cabinet was hidden in hedge at https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@53.9729588,-1.2167643...

So you are going to be better speeds than now, but more in the 20 to 30 Mbps region I'd estimate from original position.

The optimum new position would seem to be https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@53.9736753,-1.2036067...

Is that where the new work is going on?

The openreach site can be a bit behind the times though. My cabinet is showing as in the Design Stage - it has been Site Surveyed, gone to Planning, already built and connected to the other cabinet - I'm guessing it's somewhere near the Activate stage at the moment.

I'm on a long, rural, crackly exchange only line, the checker says

Your cabinet is enabled for Superfast fibre however you're not able to order fibre just yet.

This might be because the length of the line is too long to get Superfast speeds. We're actively looking at other options.

...however, Better Broadband for Nottinghamshire assure me that I will be getting 330/30 FTTP between January and March 2018. I hope they're correct!
