FTTPoD for a Road

[link to this post]

A friend of mine lives on a private road with 24 houses in zone 2/3 in London which are served by Openreach telegraph poles. They receive FTTC but only 20-30meg (I realise this isnt bad but they would like more speed and reliability). There is a residents association for the upkeep of the road and they would like a quote to have FTTP installed so it is available to all houses on the road. Not everyone would take it initially (there is a generational shift on the road as older residents leave) but they are considering spending the money so it is available for everyone.

Is it possible to get a quote from Openreach to make FTTP available to every house and then each resident can order native FTTP from whichever ISP they choose (recognising the currrent limited number of ISPs offering FTTP)? Or would it need to be an FTTPoD order with a specific ISP either from the residents association or interested houses as a group?

Thank you

PS I am fortunate to have FTTPoD (1st iteration) so am familiar with the (old) FTTPoD product and I have followed the news about FTTPoD2

See BT Community Fibre Partnerships. I also live in a community of 75 in central London and via BT's community partnership scheme, or rather its predecessor scheme, we gap funded a network rearrangement and installation of an AIO cabinet to provide an FTTC service to our previous EO lines..

Yes Openreach will do that for you, I would also check with your council as to see if there's any funding (but as you are over 24meg - mostly) this may not be available
