HG612 vs Sky Q Hub - speed difference

HI All,

I recently upgraded from Sky Fibre Unlimited to Sky Fibre Max - however my HG612 remains synced at a speed of 38 mbps.

If I plug in the "free" Sky Q Hub I get speeds of around 50 meg, so I think there's something wrong with my HG612. I wanted to continue using it as I use a Cisco router and don't want to double NAT.

Can anyone suggest a setting that could be missing - something that is causing this?

The HG612 is just a dumb modem. I can't think what the problem could be with it.
It seems more likely the problem lies with the Cisco router.

Unless the HG612 just syncs that much lower than the Sky Hub. It seems a very big difference to just be that though.

The hg612 is unlocked and that's where I'm seeing the line speed at 38mbps. It's definitely syncing a lot lower than my new sky hub. My only thought is maybe the extra speed uses a seperate frequency band?

The cisco router only does the ip connection so I'm not using it for the vdsl side of things.

Can you post the results of xdslcmd info --stats
or post the "Telnet Data > Connection stats" part from DslStats if you run that.

Maybe you have old firmware in the HG612 and G.INP is not working, or set to VDSL rather than VDSL2

As MrSaffron pointed out if it was a long time ago you unlocked the HG612 it might be on older firmware.
Only the most recent SP08 firmware supports G.INP

You can see the firmware on the main WebUI screen.
It should be....

I have checked the unit and it is definitely using VDSL2 (its ticked).

Here are my firmware versions:

Software: V100R001C01B028SP10
Firmware: A2pv6C030b.d22g
Hardware: Version B

I presume SP10 is newer than SP08? If not let me know and I'll upgrade.

I will plug the unit back in later in the week and get the DSL stats, at present I am using the Sky Q Hub and double NATting. I don't want to keep swapping incase it affects my sync speed but I will give the HG612 another go later in the week.

You do have that wrong . Note the "28" in V100R001C01B028SP10.

You want 30SP08. The one you have does not have G.INP enabled.

Edit: Also I haven't checked the detail but IIRC the Firmware now has 24 near the end, not 22. It comes integral with the 30SO08 from the Kitz site though so you don't need to deal with it separately.

Your other option is to buy a new VDSL modem - I suggest Draytek Vigor 130. I use it with Mikrotik hEX PoE and the combination is rock solid.

The Draytek supports "baby jumbo" frames (1508 byte MTU), so you get 1500 byte IP MTU even after PPPoE encapsulation (as long as your router also supports this - the Mikrotik does)

It also has web and telnet interfaces so you can see exactly what speeds the line has synced at. To use this, give your router's WAN port an IP address like 192.168.2.2, in addition to its PPPoE interface. The default IP address of the Vigor is 192.168.2.1. In order to access it from a different subnet you'll either need to set the Vigor's default gateway to 192.168.2.2, or configure your router to NAT all traffic outbound on the 192.168.2.2 interface.

Apart from this, the Vigor needs no configuration, it Just Works�.

And of course it does G.INP and Vectoring - make sure you have the 3.8.1.2_BT firmware.
