Reason a cab hasn't been upgraded for FTTC

[link to this post]

I realise that only Opeanreach will have the actual answer, but any idea why a cabinet might not have been upgraded for FTTC?

It's cabinet 12 on the LWHARR exchange.

The cabinet is apparently here: https://www.google.com/maps/@51.5797196,-0.3340101,3...

Is it likely to just be that Openreach did not deem it economically viable at the time of the roll-out?

Possibly because it provides service to predominantly business customers and not residential. It has happened quite a lot and the few residential customers are left out.

Not economically viable can mean either just that and that the ROI would be too long or not in the economic interests of the supplier, in other words an update could harm other business such as BT's lease line business.

Kind of depends on the exchange - some are very small and wouldn't be economical - in most cases they use a different exchange when that happens but if the route to an alternative exchange is also difficult/expensive then that could scupper it completely.

Not economic due to small number of premises served by cabinet, and no BDUK project willing to subsidise to negate that problem.

Which exchange?

Some exchanges are VERY small, ( 40-50 customers spread across a large area). If this is a Scottish one it should be covered eventually by the R100 program, so ask your MSP if this is the case.

Worst case could cost a quarter of a million to 'pass' 50 houses by fixed line and get 30 take-up so will end up with mobile or Satellite!

How has the whole exchange been missed out?

The exchange caters for around 20K lines over 91 cabinets which 69 of them have upgraded to fibre leaving 22 cabs and several blocks of EO Lines.

Most of those 68 cabs was upgraded to fibre back in 2011 as part of the commercial rollout there is one or two cabs that was upgraded in 2012 - 2014.
