Business FTTP

We are a GP surgery in rural Wales but fortunately the residential estate we are in has been fitted for FTTP. Because we can't use NHS internet for personal use we've investigated the possibility of having FTTP installed at the premises.

We were put in touch with Fluid Network Solutions and they have done the groundwork and have advised us of BT FTTP 330/80 for £330 a month or 80/20 for £55 a month.

Do these speeds and prices seem right? I've tried to check on-line but our postcode doesn't appear on any checkers.

Advice gratefully received.

Usually 330/30 or 330/50 for the top tier ... as for prices, not a clue I�m afraid.

There are two issues there.

1. Can you get FTTP?

Go to https://www.btwholesale.com/adslchecker/. Enter your (BT) telephone number. If you don't have a BT line, then use the *postcode checker* (not the address checker). On the next page enter your postcode. On the following page select from the properties available.

You can post what you see here with the number/address blanked out, but what you're really looking for is WBC FTTP (not FTTP on demand)

2. Are those prices right?

Other providers who will sell you FTTP include BT / BT Business, Zen, and Cerberus. Parts of South Wales are also served by Spectrum Internet.

FluidOne are a top-end expensive business ISP. You should be able to get 330/50 service for under £80 per month (including VAT). Sometimes BT retail offer a £125 pre-paid Mastercard as cashback for new customers. An 80/20 service should be £40 or less. See the page of providers linked to above.

I am assuming its not going to be a business connection due to BT only go up to 80 Mbps down with their Premium Infinity package which costs £44.70 a month, and then there is the up to 10 Gbps which is FROM £225 pm (up to 30 Mbps down and up).

Now if you went the residential route, you could get up to 330 Mbps down and either 30Mbps or 50 Mbps up for £59.99 pm.

But are you sure you can get FTTP and that its not FTTPoD ?

I should add: if your postcode is not recognised at all by the BT adslchecker, then phone up one or more of those providers listed and ask them to look into it. It's probably an error in the back-end database if it doesn't have your postcode at all.

But if you have a BT phone line already in the building, entering the number of that line is the surest way to find out what's available. If the building has a PBX then it may work better to enter the number of a standalone line (like a dedicated fax line).

You're a bit muddled, the post code checker won't give information about FTTC/FTTP, for that you need to use the number checker, or the address checker where you can enter just the postcode then submit and select the appropriate address.

What BT Business sell is irrelevant if ordering from someone like Spectrum Internet, since they have access to the range of GEA-FTTP services from Openreach.

What is this up to 10 Gbps service from £225pm - a typo I presume.

I was referring to equivalent products and prices and responded with BT products due to the OP mentioned BT FTTP.

And for the up to 10 Gbps service from £225 pm, is exactly what they have displayed for the leased line, but when you view more details the £225 pm is for their 30 Mbps up and down.

Agreed, I think they got it the wrong way round.

Granted you should use the landline number first, but if that's not possible then you are to use the address checker.
Also the Address Checker is linked to your NAD Key and District ID where as the Postcode checker is not.

If you're a GP's surgery (therefore assuming public sector / NHS) then you're required to purchase a connection on the HSCN from an eligible HSCN-NSP. Maybe they have quoted you on that basis?

If it's for use completely separately to your healthcare elements as your post seems to suggest then may need to advise incase they are assuming it's the former.
