g.fast pod added Bedford

I'm in Bedford, cab 116 and OR have installed the g.fast POD on my local cabinet, any ideas when the service would become available to order?

The poster is saying he has no idea on what you ask .....

... he often does have a well informed opinion on such things.

Some areas had G.Fast pods installed nearly 9 months ago and none of them are live (areas of Bath I believe?).

There is often a delay between all the work at the G.Fast pod being complete and it being available to order. It is often work needing done at the exchange to cope with the higher bandwidth requirements.

Some other areas it's only a month or 2 after the pod goes on that orders can be placed.

Pick somewhere inbetween.

They no longer publish expected activation dates for cabinets in advance because people complain when those dates aren't met.

I agree, we have lots of Gfast pods installed all over Cardiff but few are live. They have been here for over 9 months now, they were fitted late last summer, but show no sign of going live.

In relation to the exchange work is this a big task? as I understand it they are changing the cable link to a higher capacity but I am not sure if that requires a lot of work or not? just wondering why there is such a delay between OR finishing and Wholesale instructing OR to complete the cable link.

I believe it to be much more than just a new cablelink, but a whole new head end. Due to The volume I would guess there may still be supply delays.

and I assume that takes a bit of work then?

See the headend news the other day, for hint of what is being installed and the capacity options they are looking to have now.

Thanks, I'll have a look, have seen a few engineers out over the past three weeks doing things to the cabinet, no idea what though, saw someone today again!! so its busy!
