Roadworks.org - Now showing works in Scotland

[link to this post]

For those of you that are already aware, Roadworks.org takes highways permits/notices from the Highway Authority systems across England and presents it on a map with symbols representing the respective works with dates and details of what's taking place or coming up.

This has proven useful for people wanting to keep tabs on telecom utilities and the civil works they are carrying out to rollout broadband across England.

ELGIN (www.elgin.org.uk) have now started to show utilities works in Scotland after working with the Scottish Highway Authorities.

And to keep this post on topic, an example of a works permit/notice for fibre works:
Roadworks on Crewe Road South, Craigleith, Edinburgh, City of Edinburgh https://roadworks.org/?106286626

Looks like the permit description isn't quite populated. Might be a teething issue for now.

ELGIN's version makes it a little easier to distinguish between the types of utility from the symbols.

There is space for both sites to offer up details to users.

I've also been using this site for a couple years. It doesn't do the same job though.

The roadworks.org site is a much better layout. It has options to be alerted about roadworks in a specific area. It is usually much more detailed in the description of the works.

Finally, comparing both sites in my area, only about half of the jobs are on both sites. The roadworks Scotland site has many jobs not on the roadworks.org site. That's expected as it's only just launched North of the border.

There are also a number of jobs on the roadworks.org site that don't appear on the roadworks Scotland site.
So the only way to see ALL jobs is to use both websites as it appears neither is complete.

Interesting how roadworks Scotland labels local work permits as Virgin Media but the exact same jobs on roadworks.org come under Telewest.
