FTTPoD: Have they given up with the initial quotes entirely?

I just got my quote from Cerberus:

We have now received the estimate of the charges from BT. These are detailed below.

Estimated Build Cost: Onsite survey required to confirm charges
The build charge includes the estimate for the work and materials required to deliver the service. It also includes the connection charge.

Well that's helpful.

Given that others have now had post survey quotes coming up much lower than desktop quotes I was tempted. If they had said say, £5k on the initial quote I might have gone through for a full survey in the hopes of getting £3k or so, which I would be willing to spend.

Obviously this gives me absolutely no clue!!

Usually a NGA agg node isn�t too far away from your FTTC cabinet, so by knowing how far the FTTC cab is, that would at least give you a rough idea of whether it�s going to be a very expensive install or not. Of course other factors such as condition of ducts will also play a part, eg you may only be 500m away from the AN but it could be full of blockages which could drive up the costs significantly.

I wonder if we're about to see a pattern forming.

They may have a new policy of just not giving a desktop quote at all rather than throwing out £39k quotes with too many unknown factors.

Would be interested to hear if others get absolutely no desktop quote at all.
