FTTC Install

[link to this post]

The cab that i am connected to is in the final stages prior to going live with fttc .
I have not had a BT phone at home for 4+ years.
What is the deal with ordering fttc .
Does a phone line need to be activated first, or adsl then they upgrade you to a fttc product?
Do they install the phone line with fttc on the say day.

Thanks in advance.

Choose your FTTC provider, and your line provider, if one and the same, then you can usually get a SIM provide, and it can all be done in one visit by one engineer.

Sounds good.
Can you tell me what a SIM provide stands for ?
I guess it'll need to be done via a phone call to the ISP. In my case i think it'll be Sky.

Slightly off topic, but is anyone aware of any isps that use the Openreach network that you can set the router to modem mode natively. Ive been Forwarding from one router to another via a dmz for years. I would like to avoid all of this if possible and still use my asus rt-ac68u if possible without the dmz/ dhcp workaround. The sky mesh sounds good but Im unsure if it has the flexibility that the ASUS does when if comes to remote access and blocking the kids access on the fly.

Just don't use the ISP router and use another device that supports a bridge mode

They are not expensive e.g. https://amzn.to/2IWQOZp £37.99 for TPLink W9970 G.INP and vectoring support, bridge mode or a very basic 802.11n router

Almost every ISP allows this. A few provide VDSL2 modems in bridge mode (what you want).
Most of the bigger ISP's provide a modem/router combined. Some of these allow bridge mode to be set, some don't.

I do exactly as you seek with a Zyxel VMG1312-B10A in bridge mode with my Asus RT-AC68U.
The Asus controls the PPP session and WIFI.
The ZyXEL in bridge mode only handles the XDSL link.
