Move ONT and also supply new ONT (old one broken)

[link to this post]

Hey Guys,

So I am getting my house renovated, and in the process the ONT has been taken off the wall (and possibly damaged). The builders have also lost the power supply. Not living there so I didn't realise they were starting work in that room

Anyway long story short, I am now wondering how much it would cost to replace the ONT and also possibly move it from that room to another room in the house (probably easier to wire up also.).

Anyone got any idea?

Looks like openreach charge is £92.07 for an ONT shift and £69.50 for a replacement ONT ( presume both are exc VAT)

As the builders broke it and lost the power supply I assume they will be made to pay for the replacement

The answer would be no for a few reasons.

1) I should have packed away the power supply and I forgot, and then I told them to throw away everything in the room frown
2) I don't believe the unit it self is damaged, however I don't think i will just get a power supply from Openreach.
3) The builder has done me a few "favors" where he hasn't charged me for extra work and in some cases I would say its at-least a half day's labor.

This is the reason I am happy to pay the bill.

If its just a missing power supply then one of the same specification should suffice and be cheaper .

There is the question though of how the builders handled any fibre in the area, if this has been chopped or damaged (and fibre can break without visible external marking) then a new drop will be needed.

Getting power to the ONT and seeing if it licks up the light signal is best way.

Nothing a quick wipe against some trousers alongside a hefty blow on it won't cure.

Don't be too sure, those little extras will possibly be sneaked back in at some point - you may not see them but a 3 man-day task is quoted at 3.5, then another 1 day task, is a little more ...

So I was expecting something to happen to the ONT. The reason for this is the entire house is getting gutted and so no ceilings, new windows etc... and some would have broken it.

Not the end of the world, spoke with Cerberus today, they will get an OR survey guy out to inspect and provide quote.

It is what it is. I wanted the ONT moved anyway so would have paid for that anyway.

BT Engineer came round on Tuesday sorted it all out in a few hours. Cerberus were excellent it getting it all sorted out.

I haven't had any costs yet, will post up as soon as I get it.

That's great news, hopefully it won't be too much.
