I am currently on what used to be called BT Faster Broadband Unlimited (the old 40/2 package sold to rural locations) and I am being offered an "upgrade" so I thought I would ask if I am likely to see any difference at all or not?
As I said, I am currently on the 40/2 FTTC package, am around 3000m from the cabinet and sync at 9022 / 1124 with a pretty poor SNR at some times of day. I am being charged £51.49 per month for broadband and weekend phone. I am currently out of contract except for still being in part of the annual Line Rental Saver.
My current line stats are...

I am being told that I have an offer of "Your Broadband Discount is ready for you...". When I click on the button, it changes to say that my free broadband update is ready. I see the following blurb...
Why you need a free update
Youre currently on the old copper network which is less stable and slower than our new fibre network. Were currently moving all of our copper customers to fibre for free, so dont miss your chance to secure your free update today.
A more stable and reliable broadband connection
Free update for the same price you pay now
Faster speeds average speeds of 50Mb
They then go on to say that I will be given an out of contract price (not specified) and once I am out of contract again, it will settle at £52.49 per month.
Now as far as I can tell, apart from a possible bump to the upload speed, I am not likely to see any improvement what so ever. I will be forced into a fresh contract (whether 12 or 18 month they do not say) and after that period, my price will go up. I also thought that BT Faster Broadband was a fibre product anyway.
Firstly what part of this is a "Broadband Discount" and do you think I will see any improvement at all?

Sounds like you can now get FTTP - put your phone number into the checker here:
https://www.dslchecker.bt.com/
Do you have FTTP (not FTTPoD) available? If you do have FTTP then you will get the full speed available as it does not depend on distance.

The email is mistaken in thinking you are on ADSL.

That's ridiculous marketing nonsense where they can call ADSL over your copper wire as copper, and VDSL2 over your copper wire as "Fibre".
As you are already on FTTC there's no upgrade they can make.
Moving you to a faster package would simply remove an artificial cap that you area nowhere near meeting.
Wasn't it 18/2 BT sold to areas with very slow ADSL?

Nope, that's a standard email offering customers an upgrade from ADSL to FTTC.
The OP included a screenshot of the DSL checker.

The checker only shows FTTPoD I think? The first person to request it will have to pay for about 3Km of fibre along the current copper overground line.

That is more or less what I thought.
I was pretty certain I was on FTTC already since I did get a HH6 at the time I signed up but am on my own modem and router pair since I need other features such as QoS.
It is going to be a long haul waiting for USO.

It could even be a phishing email.
My broadband basic info/help site - www.robertos.me.uk. Domains, site and mail hosting - Tsohost.
Connection - Three 4G, tbb tests 35-45Mpbs down, 9-15 up.

It is in the My BT account management page so I doubt it. They just got it wrong I suspect since if they offer it to all "less than 8Mbps" customers they will catch people like me too by mistake.

Did you go to the page using a link in the email, or by some other route such as a Favourite or Bookmark, or directly by going to bt.com?

Since modem is not syncing at the full 2 Mbps sync of the 40/2 service currently, then switching to a 40/10 or 55/10 service is not going to boost your upload or download speeds
Switching may make more sense financially if happy committing to a new contract, i.e. for new customers you would be looking at £28.99/m for 18 months
So improvement in speed no, possibly pay less

Would the New Customer price include the line rental I wonder?
As I said I am out of contract, currently paying 51.49 all inclusive for phone and broadband and took advantage of the Line Rental Saver offer.
I think I might call them anyway and have a talk. I don't mind refreshing the contract if there is something in it for us financially as there are no alternative services apart from mobile broadband and the 4G signal is poor here.

Whatever, doing anything apart from nothing should see a big discount, you are paying nearly twice as much as being on a contract.

That £28.99 new customer price includes line rental

I have 55Mbps fibre, 10Mbps upload
& BT TV with BT Sports.
I pay £35.49 which includes everything, line rental, fibre broadband, tv, tv box and BT sports.
I do not do line rental saver.
To get this I signed up for 18 months, after negotiating down from 2 years.
