Re: Reporting incorrect DSL checker VDSL estimates

An old copper line is not bad, copper is used as it does not degrade much over time...

Older cables can sometimes have thicker copper which will improve speeds, i.e. without actually investigating a lot you are in the hearsay arena as for why the estimates differ.

On the property with the wrong estimate, if the resident wants to email us to get that fixed then I can prod Openreach.

Or they can just go ahead and order VDSL from an ISP who provides a speed guarantee, and cash in when they can't deliver the stated speed smile

@j0hn83 I wish they had replaced the ECI though, I know they never would as they would a lot of downtime for customers I would of thought and the costs involved. Is there a way to find out when the Huawei goes live? Even if it goes live say and I get a second line (unlikely as I doubt I will be allowed). Even say if I downgraded temporarily to ADSL or got a second line what is the likelihood I will get on the Huawei cab? There may be a port or two free on the ECI. I could try a temp downgrade but cant see that being allowed either as it will be too slow, I will see. My attainable without banding is around 28mbps used to be 31-32mbps a couple years ago, oddly with the HG633 I briefly tested it could see 34mbps as the attainable but that wasn't that recent maybe 6 months ago or so. With banding at 20mbps the attainable sits around 27mbps.

Sorry if the following sound like moaning, but I don't know how Opnreach are allowed to sell fibre at the same price for everyone when half of those on fibre for example get a better service from Huawei cabinets, while there is the fair few others such as myself who have to put up with a not as good service on ECI cabinets but pay the same price. I wish Openreach would either sort the G.INP issue out on ECI cabs, or switched G.INP and xDB off on Huawei cabs, until both hardware platforms can support it properly.

@MrSaffron Unfortunately I do not know the people living in the house with incorrect estimates, I know they are elderly so may not be interested in fibre, could be wrong though. Will their estimates have any effect on the postcode in terms of likeliness to be part of phase 3 due their estimates way to high? I thought they might have some bearing so I wondered if they could be changed to correct it, plus they are wrong anyway. A few years ago all the estimates on this part of my postcode were wrong, estimating 52.6mbps for VDSL around 2 or so years ago I assume Openreach changed them all on the DSL checker apart from that house with the 80mbps, not sure why that house didn't change.

All depends on who is doing the actual planning and how long they spend on it.

i.e. a massive unknown

With your logic I take you would also like Openreach to stop supporting those with FTTP connections on the grounds that being connected to an FTTC ECI cab you aren't able to get the same speeds. Remember BT Retail's cost for FTTP 55/10 is not that different from FTTC 55/10.

I suspect that you are in a very small minority of those connected to an ECI cab moaning about their connection and wanting to be on a Huawei cab.
