Advice required re: VDSL in Poundbury...

[link to this post]

Advice required
I am in the early stages of a new house move to Poundbury which has a fibre connected house. There is an ONT and I believe from memory it is lit up.

However as mentioned in other appends I have a vested interest in staying with Plusnet for the moment (think referrals!). I see from the thinkbroadband map that if I select either the Openreach VDSL2/FTTP Postcodes option or the ADSL/ADSL2+ option that there are many green spots on the map around where my house is.

Does this mean there is a chance of using my DM200 and R7000 to connect up to Plusnet and eventually move to FTTP if they ever release a product?

Still trying to get some technical details of whats there. Guessing that telephone line is copper and not VOIP or whatever the latest voice over fibre technology is

Many thanks for any comments.... Mike (dinosaur from dial up modem era! )

New houses with OpenReach FTTP usually don't have any copper, so Plusnet wouldn't be an option.

You would be limited to FTTP ISP's if that were the case, and there aren't very many.

Can't you lookup the existing number/postcode on the usual checkers to see whats available

It's possible the house has both copper and fibre, but it could be fibre-only.

Do a full check on the specific property using either phone number or address checker (not postcode checker) at btwholesale.com/adslchecker/. If you see an FTTC speed estimate then you may still be able to order FTTC.

If not: sadly you may just have to lose your referrals. Plusnet *did* have an FTTP trial, but they closed it.

I think the simplest thing is to talk to Plusnet and try to order a service move to your new address, and see what happens. Maybe in this special case, because they'd lose you as a customer otherwise, they might be able to add you to the FTTP trial.

Hi, You have an ISP on your doorstep called Poundbury systems. They have unbundled the local exchange and offer FTTP. I Would call them.

(no i don't work for them, and I'm not endorsing them either)

Really? I'd say it's more likely they resell one of the other LLU operators.

SamKnows is a bit out of date these days, but it doesn't list Poundbury as an LLU operator.

Samknows is very out of date.
I know 2 small companies who have unbundled my local exchange (they posted pics of their rack a couple yearsago) that aren't listed on SamDoesn'tKnow.

More likely it is a reseller like you say, but Samknows isn't the place to check.

Thanks for all the comments. Guess I should just be patient. It's just that when I looked at the map I could see a few plusnet speed results (which were as good as my FTTC in the previous house...) but they may be folks who were already on the now closed trial.....
