BT seemed to have dropped their fastest up to 330 Mbps Gfast

[link to this post]

Hi folks,

We are fortunate enough to have had our cabinet Gfast enabled back in October.

I have been monitoring the prices BT have been quoted with the view to upgrading.

When Gfast first became available BT were offering 2 package options - the fastest up to 330 Mbps/30+ upload and a half speed up to 150 Mbps/20+ upload.

Having not checked for a few weeks I telephoned them yesterday and was told by the sales advisor that there is only one Gfast package available - the slower up to 150 option. I queried this with the sales lady and while talking to her I checked out the BT website.

Sure enough to my disappointment as of yesterday morning the BT website is only showing the slower option.

Unfortunately my work needs it is the upload speed rather than the download speed that is of more interest to me. I am fortunate to get about 18.5 Mbps as my current upload speed. Upgrading to the slower Gfast package is going to give me a minimal increase over my current circumstances. If I could get the faster package and achieve around 30-32 it would be a significant upgrade.

Anyone know why BT have abandoned the faster package?

Just done couple of checks on the post codes, even the addresses closest to the PCP/g.Fast cabinet are listed as 'Amber'. This may explain why the BT checker is only offering the low end of the speed.

ISP: BT - FTTP 330Mb/50Mb
ISP: PlusNet - FTTC - 80Mb/20Mb

Birmingham Fibre First Program: FTTP - BT Ultra fast fibre 2 plus package - 330Mb down 50Mb up.

Stechford (CMSTE) Cab 24 - Funded Privately (Community Partnership).

I just checked a few addresses in Leith and despite having full 330 estimates BT will only offer the lower tier G.Fast.
Very strange.

330 G.Fast is still available from Zen.

I'd be amazed if it wasn't a temporary thing.

Hi,

The adsl checker for our line is showing Gfast range of minimum 261, max 294.

These figures have been the same since it went live. We only live about 115m from the cabinet (we look out at it through the windows), so distance isn't an issue.

It just seems that BT have dropped it from their product offerings at the moment at least.

Does your G.Fast estimates show the product as "available" or "Amber" on the Broadband Availability Checker.

I've just check numerous addresses on a couple G.Fast pods and every single address I've checked is showing "Amber" for G.Fast.

I checked 8 pods over 4 exchange areas and all were the same.

They all seem to be amber, was waiting a couple of weeks after noticing before bothering to chase for a reason when people are back at desks next week

Suspect BT Retail may be interpreting this amber as suggesting long line even if estimate is high

This is possibly related to the changes OR/BTW are making to the availability results.

You'll generally find that ones listed as Amber are being limited to the lower rate product. We've also queried this as that data seems inaccurate as we've seen on lines with a A range of 330-330Mb.

They did send a notice out about a week ago saying this was being looked in to but for now, you could order the lower product and regrade. Not the best solution but the data does appear to be misaligned somewhere.

Have just rechecked my adsl checker report and only just noticed it is also displaying Amber in the availability column.

It has always previously been showing as available up until now.

Hi Matt,

You suggest ordering the lower product, then regrading, but BT are not offering the faster product on their website at the moment.

It's not just a case of we can't get it, they are not offering it as a product at the moment.

Sorry, i'm referring to what BT Wholesale are recommending for this issue.

I'm sure BT Retail are aware of the bulletin that was sent out a week or so ago, may just be down to finding someone that knows.
