Ordering FTTC - possible database error?

[link to this post]

Hello folks,

I want to upgrade the broadband at my mother's house but I think there may be a database error.

The house is on the outskirts of town and, according to the BT checker when I look up her property by its phone number, it is connected to a cabinet in town that is close to the exchange. (This isn't surprising as the house was in a remote spot when built.) The obvious route to the exchange via that PCP is easy to trace and the ADSL performance tallies with my estimate of the length (3.2km, 7Mbps). The FTTC speed estimate is 4Mbps max so it wouldn't be worth upgrading.

A few years ago, a new estate was built between my mother's house and the town with its own PCP. If I look up her house by the street address rather than phone number, or look up the address of her immediate neighbours, it shows that those properties are connected to the new PCP with an FTTC speed estimate of 20Mbps. It is very close to the obvious line route to the old PCP so I can't tell from the ADSL speed whether the line was moved to the new cabinet or not.

For what it's worth, Codelook says that 65% of properties in the postcode (all on the same country lane) are served by the new cabinet and the rest are served by the old.

Is there a way to determine which cabinet a property is actually connected to without putting in an order that might lead to the broadband speed being cut in half and then faffing about with reverting to ADSL?

Thanks.
