How static are IPs on BT Retail FTTP?

[link to this post]

Hi,

I'm fortunate to have native FTTP and have been with Zen for the past year on the 330/50 service, which includes a static IP, which is handy to have. I could save a fair chunk of money moving FTTP and two sim only contracts to BT (from EE).

I'd use dynamic DNS of some description, but does any one have any experience of how frequently IP changes occur with BT retail FTTP, I use a UBNT router which is on a UPS along with the ONT, so connection drops from my side should be rare.

Cheers

Rob

I've had a native WBC FTTP link since last November with BT Retail, in my short time playing around, I got a new IP address every time I reconnected, they are dynamic!

Having said that, I have got a UBNT ER-X connected to my ONT now, and that has been up with a solid connection for the past 8 weeks, the IP address hasn't changed as there have been no re-connections in that time.

To be honest I have the ER-X configured for Dynamic DNS and I don't really care about the IP too much.

Hopefully this helps

Thanks, that's useful feedback. I suspected that would be the case, with FTTP being so much more reliable than copper based DSL connections I hoped that would be the case.

I've been on BT FTTP (70/20 service) for a few years now and the IP address changes every couple of weeks, in my experience. Admittedly, I don't run a speed test very often now as it's stable and fast enough so the period may be longer.

Typo? FTTP 80/20, or FTTC 70/20?
