Slade Green Exchange (LSSLA) Cabinet 50

[link to this post]

Just wondering if anyone could help me with getting more information as to when this cabinet will be getting upgraded.

My grandmas who live down the road were offered fibre broadband in November but my mother was told it wasn't available to us so asked me to investigate. It seems as if are in a small minority of people in the borough who currently don't have access to fibre, and using CodeLook, it also appears our cabinet is the only residential one not upgraded on this exchange, even though the exchange was upgraded nearly a decade ago.

The Openreach site says 'Exploring solutions' (which I assume means not anytime soon) and I contacted Openreach several times but they have said they have no plans to upgrade this cabinet. BT have said they can't do much as they rely on Openreach to say when they can offer it to us.

However, I have also used the DSL checker and this is saying FTTC should be available by the 31st of March, which has been there since early December (and possibly earlier). I am aware this is likely a placeholder date, but it seems to suggest there are plans in the near future for this cabinet. Looking at the council site, Openreach were actually granted planning permission twice in 2010 and 2013 but for some reason nothing has been done.

I have seen Openreach vans not too far away but given there is only about a month until this target date is missed, I highly doubt anything is going to happen in the near future.

Sorry for the long post but hopefully I've made the situation clear!

The date suggests may be in a plan but as its end of a quarter date, suggests they had a problem previously and is waiting on something.

Many reasons why a VDSL2 cabinet can get delayed or even dropped from the roll-out list, e.g. power costs, no suitable location, people objecting even if council gives permission

NOTE: Exchanges with all cabinets upgraded is surprisingly rare.

Seems the cabinet was cancelled due to issues with the location. Seems there are currently no further plans.

An option might be to see if Virgin Media will extend the nearby area to the location.

Another option would be FTTP and avoid need for a cabinet, but with no plans to do anything that way obvious, then the Community Fibre route is the likely one https://communityfibre.openreach.co.uk/ essentially community co-funding a FTTP rollout.

Full fibre will probably arrive eventually from someone, but that might be 4 years or 10 years away
