Fibre related roadworks

[link to this post]

Virgin Media have been active in my area over the past few months. Pavement outside my house was dug up, fibre laid and there is a small VM manhole cover just outside my property's boundary. In addition, two new grey cabinets have been installed across the road. So, hopefully, VM availability is only a matter of months away, if not weeks.

A few days ago, I noticed more roadworks in the area, but this time for fibre and other equipment being installed by a company called Colt. Does anyone know what fibre initiative this might be, e.g. is it OR or something else?

I saw Colt do some roadworks by me as well (Bristol / Thornbury), according to their site they offer leased lines for businesses & data centers so it looks like their just expanding their network.

That was my initial thought, although the roadworks I have seen are in residential streets. That's not to say that they are installing fibre for homes, but I was just wondering if all that work meant that FTTP is on the way to my area.

As a matter of interest Colt standards for City of London telecommunications, so maybe a little lost in Bristol laugh

Andrew, I am sorry you missed my attempt to be funny.

I remember when they first started in the city in Norton Folgate

Was not being funny at all, just pointing out that Colt being lost in Bristol is far from the truth since their own map shows Colt with their long distance network in Bristol

That map is pretty funny. Love the way some links are quite literally down to the street in detail - I could literally drive for 5 minutes and I'd be able to follow the inspection covers, while others are dead straight lines. Either those are microwave links up until they hit the coast and go international or someone couldn't be bothered with going into such detail - assuming they still had it smile
