Zarjaz or anyone can you help

[link to this post]

We are in the process of having FTTP installed to our remote village via Superfast North Yorkshire and had the contractors clearing the ducting and running the cable recently.

This has appeared very near to my house with info on that I haven't a clue other than the "FTTP" labelled on it. What does it mean in plain English. confused

Thank you. smile

Its a piece of cable holding 36 fibres, so just needs connecting to manifolds or splitter appropriately and of course all the other lengths that link back to an existing bit of FTTP network

Hi Tim

I'm sure you (like me) was hoping to learn more about what the label was saying rather than the very very obverse. These replies could have been worse (just a little maybe) if they had said its a telephone pole with a cable rolled up on it.

I've learnt to stop asking questions like this.

Sorry my answer did not meet your expectation...so lets add a bit more

Route 1141 Ident: FTTP is obvious and the V5030 refers to a structure number which are used so Openreach know things are in their network

Cable NO and CSS ID: Asset numbers simply

Cable Section: Confirms the start and end point, but with no access to the full Openreach planning system no way of deciphering the locations

Fibre Count: 36 fibres

Job No: The number the work was carried out under, allows them to track other things such as traffic management costs if needed i.e. would be under the job number too.

Contractor: Who did the work

Not sure really adds much.

Maybe not for you Andrew, but for those of us out here every piece of information we can get about FTTP actually being installed in our area is important.

Maybe if you didn't try to be across ever active thread and left others in the know to respond to threads more information may flow between people which is what forums are about.

Well put Mr.S, I didnt post my earlier attempt at a reply, it wasnt as succinct as yours.

I think the point Mr S was making is that there is very little information on the label that is likely to be of practical use, its mainly administrative - and as pointed out by Mr S - without access to the BT internal systems in respect of that exact label, there isnt really anything specific to be learned in respect of time lines etc.

This is an amazing resource and has been for many years. Mr S is "all over" the threads as he has a huge amount on knowledge in this area. Sometimes one has to understand that sometimes the information saught may not be readily available.

Given the post from Zarjaz, I think Mr S was spot on, and maybe your apparent tantrum at not getting the exact answer you wanted was a little uncalled for?

If the community wide feeling is that I should retire from helping on forums then so be it

That would lose people a lot of secondary checking and help for those who have hit an empasse with the ISP - Openreach interfaces
