FTTP 'Fibre First' in flats

[link to this post]

Openreach are rolling out 'Ultrafast' FTTP in my area (Manchester) under the Fibre First scheme. I have a leasehold apartment in Walkden in a small block (20 flats). This area is listed as being covered in the next quarter. I have family in the neighboring exchange area (Swinton) where FTTP is already rolled out, but it is clear from running several fibre checks checks that only houses are included ('Ultrafast' is only returned as an option for houses, not for the flats on the same street a few metres away...)

A bit of research lead me to the following website :-

https://www.ournetwork.openreach.co.uk/property-deve...

My impression is that flats are not included in the rollout at all because special access is needed and so landlords have to contact Openreach to arrange a survey, get access, etc.

Ive reached out to my management company who did not seem particularly interested and asked me to send an e-mail. The freeholder is a faceless company that I cannot get hold of.

It seems a bit unfair that residents in flats are being excluded by default unless they somehow find out about the rollout and contact their management company to ask them to sort it out with the freeholder shouldn't Openreach be putting in effort here to arrange access?

Ive looked into Fibreoptic but it all seems demand based, and because most of the occupants on my block are tenants, often short term, and FTTC is already available, it is not going to be possible to drum up enough interest directly.

Does anyone have any experience in this area?

Some flats are definitely getting included, a lot will depend on the landlord situation.

With the connectorised solutions if ducting is present in the building or existing phone wiring is external this can make rolling out the FTTP easy, since the fibre cables they are using can be push/pulled and tacked to walls just like the old copper stuff.

Openreach can put in all the effort in the world but if the building owner/management refuses to give permission then there is diddly squat Openreach can do.

Exharris

Some flats are being included in the fibre first rollout, small blocks with external copper feeds , ( from poles) have it available in Cardiff. Bigger block with internal ducts are down to the landlord/management company as ( as others have said) OR can only do these with the agreement of them.

Is your block fed externally or internally?

Management companies can be easier to get agreement with as a flat owner and could be worth pursuing. OR will already have access to any utility room to access the internal copper run but will need to fit a splitter / manifold then they can then run fibre to you.l

Thank you. Not sure how I would tell if fed internally or externally? Should I be looking for overhead wires from telegraph poles? Would that suggest externally?
