Exmouth 1Gb Fibre Network

[link to this post]

Some more detail from Jurassic Fibre -

Our current plans are to start building the network in the forth quarter of 2019 targeting Exmouth and reaching it by year end. In terms of Exmouth itself, we currently expect to build at a rate of 1000-2000 premises a month with service being offered as soon as the network in a one area is tested. Overall it will take 12-18 months to complete.

In terms of when the network will reach you, that really depends on where you are located and on the initial assessment of interest across the area. So for example if we were approached by a number of residents of a specific area in all probability we would look to prioritise building the network in that part of town at an earlier part of the cycle.

There will be more detail from Jurassic on the Exmouth build in a couple of months. smile

Probably didn't read that they used a chain trencher and just looked at the picture saw the small amount of spoil and assumed the trench was relatively shallow. In reality was probably in the region of ~50cm deep and 5cm wide. So you could easily put some 40mm ducting at the bottom of that which could easily take some duct grade fibre. I was looking at some this morning left behind by contractors in one of the data centres at work (they are all lazy like that end up with 20m of cable/fibre on the end of a drum and they just dump it all in patch rooms and data centres). Anyway about the diameter of your pinky for 24 single mode cores according to the writing on the side. That is a lot and I mean a lot of bandwidth.

Some say the river Exe is made completely from my tears from living in Exminster looking across the river and seeing the 1gb fibre network going down lol.

Maybe they'll look at Exminister after Phase 1? Their data centre is based in Sowton industrial estate.

And G.Fast isn't full fibre so we don't count covering those areas as "overbuild" smile

Video of "moleplough" cable laying -

We are using a 'Moleplough' dig method as part of our network build, which offers minimal disruption and disturbance to the land and the ground conditions. This method is also preferred by many landowners as it minimises risks and up to 1km can be done a day!

I would be interested to hear about your Phase 2 plans.
I think we're included in them, so any news would be great.

That moleplough looks great, but why only 1km a day - at that speed it looks as it could cover more than that (ground conditions allowing).

WELL I HOPE YOU ARE INCLUDED , We live in brixington area southwest of dinan way and after expressing an interest have been told we are not going to be included in the coverage area at all??? it looked like the phase 1 map coverage was along dinan way and towards the town but not so...maybe jurassic isnt going to be a universal network maybe they will just be choosing selected profitable areas inside their maps,??we will have to wait for openreach i guess.

I emailed but didn't hear back, so I sent a Facebook message to their team.
They came back with:

"Hi, thank you for your message.
At the moment your address is within our second phase build which will commence September 2020.
Have you registered interest on our website so we can keep you informed of our progress?"

No concrete dates, just a start date for Exmouth in general I take it.
At a guess I would say it's going to be mid-late 2021 by the time they get to us, fingers crossed for earlier though.

That is odd, I also assumed they were covering all of Exmouth, especially Dinan.
It's got to be more cost effective to lay fibre around there than other parts of Exmoth.

I have been given new information - that Phase 1 will cover only Bapton Lane & Close in Exmouth, and I have also been provided with a price list. Their full build plans run over six years.
