Is this Virgin's FTTP (Project Lightning)?

[link to this post]

Hi All,
Could any of you experts tell me exactly what this is? I'm assuming its fibre to the house, not that rubbish coax that Virgin sell as fibre.

FYI it's at DA16 3LL

In the past few days, a Virgin contractor (Comex2000) have dug up our street and have laid what looks like small green pipes to black plastic boxes flush with the pavement for each house.

Closed box
Open box
Cabinet and base
Lifted pavement slabs

Yes it is; those are green fibre tubes.

Virgin Media will install a box outside the house to terminate the fibre and run coax to their standard cable modem. They use a technology called RFoG (radio frequency over glass) to run DOCSIS 3.x even though it's fibre.

Hi

It might be better for data than telephone cable, but it's still copper that has issues with distance and interference, the reason Virgin is starting to deploy fibre, well that and marketing.

Currently at this time Virgin is just using fibre to carry data over DOCSIS, so there is little difference between a fibre connection or coax where the coax is working all okay.

I would suggest to the OP the reason they probably don't like a coax Virgin service is likely to still apply even if its delivered by fibre.

Regards

You'll still have the 'rubbish' coax from the wall to your router.
