Am I Market A or B

[link to this post]

I have spotted a Market A/B discrepancy between the ThinkBroadband speed test results and the BT Broadband Availability Checker and wondered if I have found a database mistake?

The BT Broadband Availability Checker reports me as Market A and ThinkBroadband report me as Market B. Which is likely to be the correct one?

The reason I was looking is that my sync speeds have been sagging lower and lower over the past few days and I am keeping an eye on them. We have a very bad latency reported on the speed tests (F - 1180ms) so I was wondering if this might indicate a problem...

Market A or B makes no difference to your speed test results and on VDSL the fibre will goto Ayr Summerhill exchange if you are using VDSL2

On the speed test you are mis reading it (maybe I put too much info on there, but some people do want it)

Latency on main graphs of 83ms is the key.

Your F arises from buffer bloat i.e. when you saturate your connection with lots of download traffic latency of other small packets suffers.

Quality of Service parameters on your router can negate this if this is a problem for you.

So is this VDSL2 long line or ADSL2+?

I was just wondering about the Market A/B as a curiosity but thanks for explaining.

This is a long VDSL line (c. 3300m from the cabinet) and used to sync at about 9000 to 9500 a few months ago but is drooping fairly consistently and not recovering. It syncs at about 7500 at the moment and is really beginning to impact our intended usage.

Off peak it is fine with DSLStats reporting a theoretical max connection of c. 8500 with around 7dB noise ratio but as the evening approaches that estimate drops to around our current connection speed or even lower and then the line resyncs to about 6500. That is when we hit the wall with two users and have to fight over who uses it for what.

Our main usage is one wireless Apple Music connection and one wired youtube download stream at only 720p. If I try to go full screen 1080p it buffers badly and lowers the quality anyway.

You have a very good line if you are 3.3km and still syncing at 7500.

I monitor a line which is just under 3km - you can see most of it on the poles so distance is a good estimate. On a good day after all the tweaking, it can achieve 2500 to 2700. Neighbours who are slightly shorter get 3 or 4 Mbps.

What is the chance a neighbour or someone else on te line route moved to VDSL recently? And maybe they only power up their modem at certain times?

There are only six properties out here but I know the cabinet itself is in the village in an estate. On the long run up here, the line does pass through trees and at our pole where it dives underground to come to our specific property the outer plastic sheath is cut, exposing the metal armour so that may have let water into the cable. No idea if the inner layers are compromised though.

I'm on an approx 3.5km VDSL line (mostly underground so I can't be too sure but it's 3km as the crow flies) and typically sync at about 4500 but in recent months the checker has been saying VDSL is NOT available. I've been on this for a couple of years now and it has been vastly superior to the previous ADSL setup which would drop out on a regular basis.
