Issues with Gigaclear?

[link to this post]

Hi all, just had Gigaclear FTTP installed today after several *years* of waiting. I've purchased the 300mbps upload/download package, but after several hours of reboots and what have you most online wifi speed tests show around 40 down and anything from 50-200 up. Whatever test I do, down is no more than *ten percent* of up, which is strange and frustrating.

Gigaclear wants me to do a wired speed test, which I will do when I get the right cable. Meanwhile, I just wondered whether anyone has had a similar experience with slow download and fast upload despite the advertised speeds. Any tweaks worth trying? Gigaclear tested the cable and all is fine as far as they're concerned. I paid for 300 up/down and that's what I expect!

Cheers all,
David

Until you can test with a device connected to the router via Ethernet it is conceivable that the issue is some wireless interference.

If neighbours have Gigaclear ask them how their connection is, or even borrow an Ethernet cable

Also worth checking twitter, as some areas have had issues now and then.

Remember that the Gigaclear speed is contended, and I'm not aware of a guaranteed committed rate - if it is newly available there's probably a lot of people all running speed tests. You may get the 300Mbps when nobody else is using their connections.

I'm on Gigaclear too. The wireless capability of Gigaclear's router is known to be very poor both from a range and speed perspective. The wifi speed tests you are getting are probably indicating that you are connecting using 2.4Ghz not 5Ghz wifi. The only good news is that full speed IS available on the wired ethernet ports on the back of the router.

Your best bet is to use the wired ethernet ports at the back. For better wifi, use a separate wireless access point. This is what I do. I'm on the 300Mbit package and whenever I speedtest using my hardwired PC, I get the full 300Mbit both up and down. Over wifi, I usually get around 200Mbit/s, assuming I am connected using 5Ghz wifi.
